20 Incredible Facts About The “Unsinkable” Titanic You Probably Didn’t Know About

When Titanic came out in 1997[1], we didn’t just go to the theater to watch it once… we went five times. Which is quite a feat because the movie is three and a half hours long. It’s just that good though. People loved it. That was around the same time Independence Day and Twister came out. Those were some great years for movies. Titanic was not just a historical movie, it was a love story and an adventure. I’ll never forget how people were locked behind gates and drowned below. Or how elderly couples held each other in bed and waited for the end to come. There were heroes everywhere and a few selfish villains. The movie was simply epic and one of the greatest of all time. Much like the real story itself, it is a tale for the ages.

From Viral Thread:

The Titanic is perhaps the most iconic ship in history and was one of the most celebrated ocean liners of its time. As I’m sure you are all aware its maiden voyage ended in tragedy when it struck an iceberg out at sea. The epic romantic disaster movie ensured that its catastrophic story was known the world over when it sailed to the top of the box office back in 1997. But unlike Jack we haven’t let go of the events that took place back in 1912 and probably never will.

Over a century ago on the 15th April at 2.20 am the “unsinkable” R.M.S Titanic, the largest ship afloat, disappeared beneath the waves. Although the movie taught us a lot about the life and loss of the passengers on board, here are a few things you probably didn’t know.

In happier Titanic news, Kate Winslet, aka. Rose, recreated the movies most famous scene[25]. But this time she’s traded in Leo for Bear Grylls and the ship for the side of a cliff.

The band literally played on as the ship sank. Men had drinks and cigars as they waited for certain death. There weren’t enough life boats to go around and women and children were put in those available. But even those weren’t filled to capacity for some reason. The ship hit an iceberg and the compartments filled with water one by one. They weren’t individually sealed and that spelled doom for the ship on its maiden voyage. It split in two as it sank in frigid waters. Some people survived miraculously swimming in the ice cold of the deep… most perished that went into the ocean. Those that were not taken down with the ship immediately that is. Most of the bodies were never found. Few survived the sinking of the Titanic – she was supposed to be unsinkable. If you haven’t seen the movie, you really need to. It is unforgettable.
