Giving Illegal Immigrants The Edge Over American College Students?
Written By : John Hawkins

If, let’s say, you’re a student from North Carolina, Ohio, or Arizona who wants to go to a public university in Maryland, you have to pay a higher rate than teenagers who live in the state. On the other hand, if you’re in the country illegally, you get the cheaper in-state rate.

This week, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley signed a bill to require the state’s public universities to give undocumented aliens — generally illegal — in-state tuition privileges.

The bill, known as the Dream Act, is already the law in ten other states, including California, New York, Texas and Illinois.
But critics argue that the bill will give illegal aliens better treatment than Americans and legal immigrants — thanks to existing diversity policies at universities.

University of Maryland (College Park) computer science Prof. James Purtilo told FoxNews.com that, during his time as an associate dean, he frequently saw admission officers favor students because of their “undocumented” status.

“They favor students with special circumstances. ‘Undocumented alien’ would be one of these special circumstances… They help fill out the diversity picture for the admissions office.”

…Affirmative action benefits can be substantial. A study of selective universities by Princeton sociologists Thomas Espenshade and Alexandria Radford found that listing one’s race as “Hispanic” instead of ‘White” increased the likelihood of being admitted by the same amount as scoring an extra 130 points on the SAT. Compared to Asians, the study found, Hispanics receive a 240-point advantage.

No illegal should be given an unfair advantage over American kids trying to get a college education. That’s just not right. That being said, I would be okay with giving illegals a break on their college tuition if it allowed us to gather a list of them that we could deport.

Something tells me the affirmative action crowd is pulling the strings somewhere in this story.

This is just another hand out to EVERYONE but Americans.

Tax breaks, education, healthcare, food stamps, welfare, home loans, business loans, grants, legal aid, and who knows what else we are FORCED to provide these criminals who do not belong here and despise us.

“Latino voters sided overwhelmingly for Mr. Obama in the 2008 election, with 67 percent picking the Democratic presidential ticket, according to exit polls. Rapid growth in the Hispanic population, especially in critical states in the Southwest, make the Latino population important for the president next year as he seeks another term.”

That’s all I have to say. So keep up the anti-Hispanic rhetoric.

Meanwhile young American kids should settle for vocational or in-state schools, becuase they aren’t as “special” as illegal immigrant kids.

        Education was once cheap everywhere.

Then we experienced 30 years of Reaganomics, which the states dutifully mimicked, and now find, after the massive taxcuting mania, especially to the wealthy, that we can no longer educate our children except through massive loan programs that are ill affordable for most, to just cover college tutition.

And now you want to complain about poor kids in many states getting a tuition break. Complain to someone else. You are the problem not those kids.

your attempt to deflect my point that you support lesser opportunities for my two kids and other american born kids in order to elect more democrats has not gone unnoticed.

The cost of education has outpaced the rate of inflation for years, and you have done nothing to prove that has anything to do with Reagan.

Of course that is true.  he is almost a caricature of the typical dem leftist. he is like the Onion version of a leftist.

very little point in arguing with him as he epitomizes the ”I am rubber and you’re glue and whatever you say bounces of me and sticks to you defense.”

So giving free education to a massive population of illegal immigrants isn’t hurting our education system, it’s all Reagan’s fault?

When I was in high school I could fairly estimate that 65% of students were illegal immigrants or the children of illegal immigrants. Everything had to be translated into Spanish to accomodate them. This doesn’t raise costs?

Meanwhile, the teachers union (CFT) always made sure that they were making ridiculous benefits.

If anything, I would say that you can correlate the rise of teachers’ unions to the decline in education quality.

Seems like there are advantages to renouncing US citizenship and still living here. No taxes, welfare, no need to carry auto insurance, food stamps, preferential education opportunities, free healthcare, etc…Missing are the preferential rights as squatters and employment. Certainly, the advantages of having a US citizenship are slowly being take away.

Proving once again that the government is now the single largest source of institutionalized racism in the country.

We’re going to have to coin a new term to describe the liberal phenomenon of discrimination against a country’s own citizens. Oh wait we have one: apartheid.
