Woo Hoo, Troops To Hit Arizona Border On Monday….Wait, What?
Written By : William Teach

I was rather excited when I saw this AP headline

Guard troops to deploy to Arizona border on Monday

Yeah, about that

The first of 532 National Guard troops are set to begin their mission in the southern Arizona desert on Monday under President Barack Obama’s plan to beef up U.S.-Mexico border security, although they won’t have any law enforcement authority.

About 30 troops will start their jobs on the border Monday, and waves of more troops will be deploying every Monday until all 532 are expected to be on the Arizona border by the end of September. In May, Obama ordered 1,200 National Guard troops to boost security along the border.

Oh, good, it will only take 17 weeks. Though, that is a shorter time than most people wait for healthcare in Canada and Britain. Ok, moving on, the NG folks deployed will have no power to stop and arrest illegals, of course, yet, just have them there can be a deterant that can make some illegals think twice about crossing the border. Perhaps the administration and media could stop telling everyone that the NG troops have no power to do anything but observe and report.

Obama was all but compelled to act on illegal immigration after the passage of a tough new Arizona law thrust the border problem into the public spotlight.

Oh, no, he was forced to do the job the Constitution requires. How gauche.

So it will end up taking him over 9 months since assuming power to transport 1,200 National Guard troops to a US state?

That kind of decisive action in face of a looming crises makes me really happy that he is in charge of all our armed forces and national defense.

Why if 9/11/2001 had happened on his watch we'd be deploying the first ground troops in Afghanistan early next year.

      And with comparable results

I have two questions. First, how far from the border are they going to be deployed, and how are they going to be equipped? Second, if they're going to be deployed on the Border itself, will they have weapons and ammo, or are they going to just be targets for any drug gang wanting to raise hell for publicity?

They'll be armed, but only for self defense.

OK, the health care isn't quite THAT bad, even I have to admit. It's only 16 weeks.

Well two things, Obama is already doing more then the last 3 admins. He has deported more then bush and the rest ever did. And there will be troops on the border. Has that been done before? Give some credit where some is due.

Actually, I have given him credit in the past, particularly the way he is going after companies. Rather than huge raids, he has agents going through the paperwork at companies, which means even more busted.

Although I think we should be doing both, making a point with the employers and the illegal aliens as well. That would go along way to getting these people to self deport. If the employer just gets into trouble, all the illegal aliens have to do is move on to the next company, until that company gets caught. Say every company gets caught in one state the illegals just move on to the next state and so on.

So it should be double pronged along with securing our border. That would go along way to assuring the American public that the federal government means business and then we could finally get on with the discussion about what to do with the ones that already here and what to do with them.

Obama is already doing more then the last 3 admins. He has deported more then bush and the rest ever did.

President Bush increased deportations by more than 60%. Barack Obama has increased deportations by a whopping 5%.

Not much of an endorsement, there.

And there will be troops on the border.

Except they won't be doing anything. So the fact that they're on the border doesn't really make any difference, does it?

      Has that been done before?

Actually yes, that has been done before. In the 90s groups of US Marines were sent on border patrols to interdict smuggling and illegal immigration near Redford, Texas. The patrols stopped after a Marine mistakenly shot and killed a US citizen who fired on them with a .22-caliber rifle (apparently he spotted them and thought they were trespassers) and after a congressional review declared the patrol policy in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.

After 9/11 the government again considered sending troops to patrol the US-Mexico border. In May 2006 President Bush announced plans to send National Guard troops to the border to strengthen border enforcement, although he emphasized that Guard units “will not be involved in direct law enforcement activities.” In his 2007 State of the Union address President Bush claimed that more than 6,000 National Guard members had already been sent to the border.

Golly, that sounds awfully familiar, doesn't it? Oh wait, it's exactly the plan Barack Obama claimed to have come up with to deal with illegal immigration. So not only is President Obama stealing credit for a policy President Bush created and implemented (AGAIN!), he's stealing credit for one of the worst parts of President Bush's platform; his policy towards illegal immigration.

You'd think if Obama was going to plagiarize his predecessor's ideas he'd stick to only plagiarizing his good ideas.

    • Mr. EMT

The last three admins did not have the problems that face obama.
5 years ago I would have gone across the boder with my kids and family to buy suviners and go shopping.
      Now?
I try go avoid American border cities due to how bad the crime rate is.
Don't you libtards cry that living in the past is bad?
You certainly throw it in conservatives faces when you think you can get away with it that they want slavery back.
Your hypocrisy and ignorance are on open display.
And sending troops to our borders to twiddle their thumbs is a waste of time only designed to give mouth breathing retards who slobber all over themselves something to defend him with by saying “at least he's trying”
Only a witless moron buys the bullshit you are shoveling, Fail.

Just in time for the November elections: Per orders from “You Lie!' hussein, the guard will be providing the ILLEGALS free (i.e. taxpayer-funded) drinks of their choice plus an already filled-out d-crat socialist party voter registration card.

In addition, recruiters from AMNESTY-JOHN mccain and his multi-millionaire wife will also be at the border to get first pick of these new job applicants for their beer distributorship.
