Watch as This Blind Teen With Cerebral Palsy Delivers a Stirring National Anthem

In general, we tend to not have a very positive view on people living with disabilities, and for some reason, the country is always shocked when we see one of those people do something amazing or inspiring. But a disability doesn’t prevent someone from being talented, as Marlena VanHoose proved at the NBA Finals singing the National Anthem.

Prior to Game 6 of the NBA Finals on Tuesday, 18-year-old Marlana VanHoose delivered one of the most powerful national anthems in recent memory.

The Internet fell in love with VanHoose back in 2014 when she showed off her impressive pipes at Kentucky Wildcat home games, and though she was born both blind and suffering from cerebral palsy, she can really bring it.

We always get excited about videos such as these, perhaps because they show us that people can overcome disabilities to do inspirational things. But instead of getting excited and awed that a person with a disability can do something amazing, maybe we should stop treating people with disabilities as broken people whose lives are filled with suffering, and acknowledge that they have talents and abilities just like anyone else does.
