Interviewing Ann Coulter About Her New Book, “Demonic”

Ann Coulter’s new book is called Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America. I’ve read it, it’s outstanding, and I’d highly recommend that you read it, too. To give you a taste of what it’s like, here’s RWN’s seventh interview with Ann Coulter. Enjoy!

In the book, you described Jon Stewart’s audience as “idiots” “who don’t get all the jokes, but know who they’re supposed to hate.” So, what do you think of Jon Stewart?

I was a big Jon Stewart fan until I learned that he once shared a summer house with Anthony Weiner. Now I just think he’s dirty.

Here’s a quote from the book, “To be fair to O’Reilly, which he wouldn’t be to me, he was joking.” Why do you say Bill O’Reilly wouldn’t be fair to you?

Because he’s not always fair to me. So mostly based on that.

Marie Antoinette is often portrayed as a cruel, heartless woman who arrogantly mocked starving peasants by suggesting they eat cake. You say that’s not so at all. Tell us a bit about Marie Antoinette.

She was the Sarah Palin of her day, completely misrepresented by historians and the media, as my book demonstrates. For example, it has gone down in history that Antoinette said of starving French peasants, “Let them eat cake!” — a line invented by the narcissistic atheist Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Similarly, it has gone down in history that Palin said, “I can see Russia from my house!” — a line invented by the narcissistic atheist Tina Fey.

MLK is spoken of almost as if he’s a saint. While he certainly accomplished a lot, do you think MLK is given more credit than he deserves compared to other civil rights leaders?

The young Thurgood Marshall was an American hero. He redeemed blacks’ civil rights the American way: By bringing lawsuits asserting constitutional rights and winning those cases in court after court, including the groundbreaking Brown vs. Board of Education case back in 1954. As long as a Republican was in the White House, Marshall’s legal victories would be enforced. President Dwight Eisenhower, for example, sent the 101st Airborne Division to the Little Rock Central High School to walk black children to school in accordance with the Brown decision.

But, unfortunately, Democratic presidents JFK and LBJ were in office from 1961-1969, and they dragged their feet on civil rights enforcement in order to pander to the segregationist mob within the Democratic Party. If Nixon had won the 1960 presidential election, there never would have been a need for civil rights marches, protests and civil disobedience and we’d be celebrating “Thurgood Marshall Day” rather than “Martin Luther King Day.”

I equate Martin Luther King’s civil disobedience with the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue: Both were for good causes and the participants arguably had no choice but to break the law — because liberals had taken away the rule of law on these particular subjects via Jim Crow laws in defiance of Supreme Court rulings, and via Roe v. Wade in defiance of the Constitution. This distinguishes them from every liberal protest in the history of this country. But I still prefer orderly legal processes to street protests and so I tend to agree with Thurgood Marshall, who called King an “opportunist” and “first-rate rabble-rouser.”

You’ve been saying for a while that you think Chris Christie may be the only guy who can stop Mitt Romney. How about Rick Perry, who’s also a big name candidate — and if not, why not?

Chris Christie could eat Rick Perry for breakfast — so to speak.

You note in the book that, “Democrats reserve unfathomable venom, often coupled with physical violence, for conservative women.” Why do you think liberals hate conservative women so much? Also, do you think liberal men view liberal women the same way, but refrain from saying so as long as they’re on the same side?

Because people who glorify God are difficult to whip into violent mobs and conservative women are correctly viewed as the keepers of religious faith.

One of my favorite quotes from your recent columns is, “As Schlafly says, no wonder liberal women think men are pigs: Their men are pigs.” What would you say to liberal women who claim conservative men aren’t any different from liberal men?

A liberal’s idea of being chivalrous is to hold the car door for you before driving you off a bridge. Also, a conservative guy will never ask to “role play” with you as the sexy nurse and him as the senior citizen with a pre-existing medical condition who wants a single-payer government health plan.

The core theme of your book is that American liberals have become a completely irrational, ugly tempered, squawling mob that ruin everything they touch….

That’s a great summary — can I use that?

…This is, of course, true. But, many of these people are very intelligent. How do they get seduced into behaving like this?

As Gustave Le Bon explains, a man in a crowd, no matter what his individual intelligence or occupation, will be transformed into a “sort of collective mind” so that he feels, thinks and acts in a manner quite different from how he would as an individual.

Do you think liberalism and Christianity are compatible?

Reflect on the fact that NBC specifically cut “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance and ask me that question again.

The famous shootings at Kent State…. you said in the book that those shootings were a good thing. Explain why.

This country was being torn apart by the sort of mob violence that has destroyed nations and made civilization impossible — such as the revolutions in France, Germany, Russia, China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Cuba. The response of our elite institutions was to capitulate to the mob — even when the mob at Kent State burned the ROTC building to the ground and then threw rocks at firemen and slashed their water hoses when they came to put the fire out. The shooting at Kent State put an end to the violent mayhem on college campuses with some alacrity.

Last but not least, how about dashing off a quick sentence or even just a word or two about the following individuals…

Al Sharpton: The media’s designated spokesman on civil discourse.

GOProud: No longer supporting gay marriage, God bless them.

Charles Manson: Would be teaching at Northwestern if he hadn’t killed Sharon Tate.

Mitt Romney: Christie might want to consider him for vice president.

Rachel Maddow: The second openly crazy anchor to host a prime-time news program in the United States.

Anthony Weiner: Who? Name doesn’t ring a bell.

Andrew Breitbart: A great American.

Barack Obama: The second-worst black president in U.S. history.

Meghan McCain: A dumber, bustier John McCain.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz: I think these programs to mainstream the learning disabled may have gone too far.

Once again, Ann Coulter’s excellent new book is called Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America.
