CNN’s Chris Cuomo ALMOST Gets It Right On The Difference Between Christians And Muslims

We came so close to giving kudos to CNN’s Chris Cuomo, who usually doesn’t deserve them, in the wake of his analysis about the role of Muslims and terrorism in American perception.

So close. No cigar, though[1]…

CNN’s “New Day” co-host Chris Cuomo stated, “you don’t see Christians killing in the name of Christianity the way you do with Muslims right now, and it feeds a lot of the phobia” on Thursday.

Cuomo said, “the Muslim thing matters, too, it just does. Are all Muslims bad when Muslims do something bad? No. But at the same time, when you analogize it to, you know, a guy who might be a Christian and does something, you don’t see Christians killing in the name of Christianity the way you do with Muslims right now, and it feeds a lot of the phobia, and it’s something that requires discussion, and time, and context, and that’s in short supply when people are angry.”

There is no “phobia” when it comes to American non-Muslims and their attitudes toward Islam. That’s where Cuomo gets it wrong.

But as to the rest of his statement he’s correct. The overwhelming majority of the threat to public safety in this country comes from ISIS and its compatriots in the global jihad movement which has adherents in every Western country, and Americans know it. It’s bad enough that there are random crazies out there who ride a cloud of mind-altering perscription drugs, mental illness and societal alienation to the occasional one-off mass shooting event, but radicalized Muslims killing for Allah is a phenomenon far more common than the public is comfortable with and it can and should be stopped.

Preferably by Muslims themselves, who the public isn’t satisfied are doing enough to police their own faithful.

People who know and understand this are not “Islamophobic,” which was always a fictional term. They live in the real world. They’re aware that most Muslims are not terrorists, but they’re also aware that despite the representations of the Obama administration most of the active terrorist threat out there comes from Muslims.

And that’s not a phobia. That’s a recognition of a sad reality and a reasonable reaction to it.
