A teen in Tucson, Arizona apartment complex has been warned by the building owners to remove a Marine Corps flag from her balcony or face eviction, news reports say.

The flag was placed there[1] to honor her Marine father.

A Tucson woman is in shock after her apartment complex told her to take down the United States Marine Corps flag displayed on her balcony, or face eviction.

Rachel Montalvo said the timing couldn’t be worse because today is the 239th birthday for the USMC and tomorrow is Veterans Day.

Montalvo also said she’s displayed the flag since August and the property managers at Campus Crossing at Star Pass never said anything to her about it before.

“I wish they would have come to me first instead of putting this notice on my door, or at least given me a little bit less of a harsh warning,” she said.

The letter says she has ten days to take down the flag or she will have to vacate the premises. Montalvo called the notice ‘un-American’. The red USMC flag is displayed on her second floor apartment balcony. It belonged to her father.

Once the news went viral, the apartment owners amended their rules a bit.

They sent out this notice to the media:

“Campus Crossings at Star Pass proudly displays the American flag on our property year-round, and today, we join all Americans in honoring those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Maintaining the appearance of our property for residents is a top priority, which is why we have rules in place that prevent the hanging of flags and banners on areas that are visible from the exterior. We will make an exception to this rule, allowing residents at Campus Crossings at Star Pass to display appropriate flags on holidays such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day.”

Seems to me they are still telling the girl to get rid of the flag except for Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
