The Sexist Left’s Mafia Mentality When It Comes To Conservative Women: The Christine O’Donnell Edition

by John Hawkins | October 29, 2010 12:32 pm

One you have to understand about politics is that the Left’s extraordinarily vicious, misogynistic attacks on women like Sarah Palin[1], Michele Bachmann[2], Ann Coulter[3], Michelle Malkin[4], and Christine O’Donnell[5] are not just about them personally.

When it comes to conservative women, Ann Althouse[6] summed it up well when I interviewed her for a RWN piece called, Blogging While Female Part 2: Five Women Bloggers Talk About Gender Issues And The Blogosphere[7],

…The problem with being a woman is that you tend to have a greater stake, for…emotional reasons, that you want people to like you or that you think it’s important to remain likable. That’s like fighting with one hand behind your back. If you don’t develop a thick skin, if you don’t take some risks, and put up with people attacking you, there’s a limit to what you can do.

I think that a lot of the male bloggers know that and because of that, they think they can get you to leave — and they have actually gotten various women to leave. I could tell, when I was first getting noticed, that there were people, whether they consciously thought it or not, that believed they could just make me get out –that they would make the blogosphere so rough of a place for me that (I) would close up and go home.

…In the blogosphere, it’s sort of like the Wild West, and you actually can try to push people out. You can push women out. There’s a way of trying to get women to leave and because it’s a rough world where people are trying to climb to the top, they will use whatever techniques they can, you know? And so I think that makes you vulnerable as a woman, but you don’t have to be. There’s a positive side to it, too, that you can use. You get attention just for being a woman because it’s less common.

Put another way, the Left has a Mafia mentality with women. The Mafia goes to store owners and asks for “protection money.” You pay them and all is well. If you don’t, then your store might “accidentally” burn down.

It works the same way in politics.

Liberal women are protected by virtue of being liberal. You try to take the sort of shots at Hillary Clinton that they take at Sarah Palin or you go after Maureen Dowd the way that they tear into Ann Coulter and the entire mainstream media will howl in outrage. But, if it happens to a woman who hasn’t “paid her protection money” by toeing the liberal line? Well then, you might have some kook move in next to you to spy on you for a book. You might end up on a hate f*** list in Playboy. You might have nutjob liberal bloggers like Andrew Sullivan[8] spend years on end claiming that you didn’t have your own baby.

Now, courtesy of Nick Denton’s degenerate scumbags at Gawker, we have a new tactic. They actually paid some loser who claims to have had a make-out session with Christine O’Donnell to write about it publicly. Incidentally, his name is Dustin Dominiak and I wish him all sweet rewards of having everyone on the Internet think he’s a despicable jackass who needs to be severely punished.

Gawker’s article is called “I Had a One-Night Stand With Christine O’Donnell.[9]” It features Dustin Dominak, whose name was not mentioned in the piece by the way, bragging that he had once had a drunken make-out session with O’Donnell. There’s no proof the story is true beyond some pictures of O’Donnell at a party and despite the fact that it’s called “A One-Night Stand With Christine O’Donnell,” there’s no actual sex involved.

You might ask: Beyond just trying to drum up traffic, why would they even run something like this? She’s not married; so it isn’t like she’s cheating on her husband. O’Donnell even lived up to her principles by not having sex. Moreover, a woman making out with a guy she just met isn’t exactly unusual. I can almost guarantee you that 90% of the politicians in America have done something similiar in their lives at one time or another. So again, why run the story at all?

Simple: They’re running it to try to humiliate, embarrass, and degrade Christine O’Donnell by revealing the intimate details of her personal life. The message to every other conservative woman? Shut your mouth and stay in your place or this might happen to you, too.

PS: I guess I should congratulate the same liberal women who usually go along with these sort of sexist attacks for finally condemning them in this case, but I’m not going to do that. Maybe I’m just cynical, but I think the only reason you’re seeing widespread condemnation of this article on the Left is because O’Donnell isn’t doing well in her race. If O’Donnell were ahead of Coons in the polls today, I believe most of the women on the Left (and NOW for that matter) would be Tweeting this story and laughing about it instead of condemning it. That’s certainly how most of them have behaved in the past when the Left has launched grotesquely sexist attacks on conservative women and it’s how they’ll probably behave in the future.

PS #2: If Nick Denton had any integrity and was genuinely appalled by this story, he’d fire the person at Gawker who was responsible for greenlighting this piece of trash.

PS #3: Don’t hold your breath waiting for Nick Denton to turn out to be a man of integrity.
