Soldiers Reduced to Stealing Goats for Food in Socialist Venezuela

It might seem that the triumph of statism would at least be good for people who are employed as guardians of the state. But in the end it works out poorly for everyone. For example, in socialist Venezuela, hungry soldiers have been reduced to stealing goats:

Over the weekend, six members of the Venezuelan military were detained by local authorities for stealing goats, the Venezuelan newspaper El Nacional reported Sunday. It said the soldiers confessed to stealing the goats and said they did it to feed themselves, since they had no food left in their barracks.

“It’s not a good sign when your military doesn’t have enough food, and when the military has been relegated to guarding and protecting food lines,” said Jason Marczak, director of the Latin America Economic Growth Initiative at the Atlantic Council. “This is endemic of the problems going on across the country.”

Venezuela recently tried jacking up the minimum wage, as Donald Trump is open to doing here. Unsurprisingly, it doesn’t seem to have helped.

On the positive side, government employees are enjoying 5-day weekends.

You would think that Tinseltown leftists like Sean Penn and Danny Glover who ostentatiously supported the Bolivarian Revolution would be down there to share some of their champagne and caviar with the guys responsible for enforcing that revolution, so that they don’t have to eat other people’s goats. But like South Africa, Venezuela is no longer a trendy topic, now that lefties have gotten their way, and other people have to live with the aftermath.
