Poll: Getting facts correct is the key to Americans’ trust in media

A new poll indicates[1] that the media is basically full of crap. Americans would trust the media much more if they were unbiased and stuck with verifiable facts. Instead they favor Marxists and push political agendas. It seems like it has been that way forever. Certainly since the Vietnam War anyway. When I go to a news site, I wants facts and lots of info. I don’t want to see the hatred of Christians, the glorifying of Donald Trump and the slandering of Ted Cruz as I do on the Drudge Report these days. He’s lost all credibility with his partisan antics and his downright dishonest stories.

Poll[2]

From the AP:

Trust in the news media is being eroded by perceptions of inaccuracy and bias, fueled in part by Americans’ skepticism about what they read on social media.

Just 6 percent of people say they have a lot of confidence in the media, putting the news industry about equal to Congress and well below the public’s view of other institutions. In this presidential campaign year, Democrats were more likely to trust the news media than Republicans or independents.

But trust today also goes beyond the traditional journalistic principles of accuracy, balance and fairness.

Faced with ever-increasing sources of information, Americans also are more likely to rely on news that is up-to-date, concise and cites expert sources or documents, according to a study by the Media Insight Project, a partnership of The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and the American Press Institute.

I also want a site that is easy to navigate, where I can locate what I’m looking for. I want a contact point on the site as well. And for the love of all that is holy, knock it off with the pop-up ads! Some sites are so ad-heavy you can’t get to the news. I want a source that is accurate in their reporting and if they goof, as we all do, I want them to freely admit it and correct it. In my world, it is better to be right than first. I also want more than one source on a story if possible. This poll reflects what I feel is going on among the majority of Americans. Be honest and unbiased. Make the news easy to get and reliable. If news sites can do that, they win. Otherwise, there are a million sources to choose from out there.
