The MSNBC Apology Collection

After ridiculing Mitt Romney for having an adopted black grandchild, militantly mulatto Melissa Harris-Perry first tried to promote herself with a hashtagged Twitter apology. When that blew up in her face, she tried a genuine apology, complete with on-air tears:

If you had a good snicker at that, you’ll want to collect the complete set of MSNBC apologies, including the classic favorites listed below.

Ed Schultz:

MSNBC’s Ed Schultz, suspended by MSNBC Wednesday evening for calling conservative radio host Laura Ingraham a “right-wing slut” on his nationally syndicated radio show, addressed his comments on the final Ed Show episode before beginning what was to be week-long suspension. In a remarkably fulsome and sincere apology, though, Schultz announced that he was taking himself off the air for an “indefinite” period.

Keith Olbermann, after even his fellow lib Jon Stewart found his attacks on Scott Brown excessive:

“You will often hear Rachel Maddow and I lumped in together with Jon Stewart of the “Daily Show” as the only truth-tellers in mainstream television. Well, this week Mr. Stewart was critical first of Rachel, and last night of me. … You’re right. I have been a little over the top lately. Point taken. Sorry.”

What a pro. Note how deftly he nestled his apology to Stewart (not to Brown) in self-praise.

More Keith Olberman:

Keith Olbermann took on comparisons of his own cruel remarks about some conservative women with Rush Limbaugh‘s sustained attack on Sandra Fluke, which has prompted an unprecedented advertiser exodus from the conservative radio giant. While Olbermann argued that his offenses were vastly different in character (and not misogynist), he did apologize to conservative pundits S.E. Cupp and Michelle Malkin, and announced the (re)suspension of his “Worst Persons” segment.

The charming Olbermann had said of S.E. Cupp, “On so many levels she’s a perfect demonstration of the necessity of the work Planned Parenthood does.” He gallantly called Michelle Malkin a “big mashed-up bag of meat with lipstick on it.”

Alec Baldwin:

“I did not intend to hurt or offend anyone with my choice of words, but clearly I have — and for that I am deeply sorry. Words are important. I understand that, and will choose mine with great care going forward. What I said and did this week, as I was trying to protect my family, was offensive and unacceptable. Behavior like this undermines hard-fought rights that I vigorously support.”

Baldwin had used what they call a “gay slur” too obscene to be repeated here. It appears to have mortally wounded his career. To learn who rules over you…

Martin Bashir:

Bashir was apologizing for reading off his teleprompter that someone should urinate in Sarah Palin’s eyes and defecate in her mouth.

What is really needed is an apology from NBC for putting this execrable channel on the air.
