A Message About The Comments Section And A Call For Moderators
At one time, Right Wing News used to have one of the best comment sections on the right side of the blogosphere. However, when the amount of the content on the page dramatically ramped up, the number of comments per thread couldn’t keep up. It took time, but eventually we started to build the numbers back up.
However, over the last few months we’ve started to develop a different problem, one that certain bars have an issue with. We have a number of regular commenters who show up every day and comment, which is good, but some of them have become extremely difficult and abusive. This discourages new people from wanting to comment on the page.
So, the dilemma has been, do I temporarily reduce the number of comments but improve the atmosphere by getting rid of these people or do I let it ride? I’ve tried the latter option for quite a while, but at long last, I’ve now decided that it’s time to go ahead and remove some people.
With that in mind, starting Monday, I’m going to be more involved in the comment sections, we’re going to have moderators deleting out-of-line posts and anyone who trolls, has anger management issues or is extremely difficult will be bounced.
Consider yourself warned.
PS: I’m also going to be adding on some moderators. If you’ve been a regular commenter at RWN and are interested in the job, let me know in the comments section.
