RECALL ALERT: This Popular Dog Food Is Getting Pulled For Lack Of Nutrition

For those dog lovers among us, this will likely be irritating news. It seems that lots of Purina’s wet dog food brands are coming off the shelves for scoring badly on nutritional value[1]…

Nestlé-Purina has issued a voluntary recall of many of their wet dog food tubs. The company discovered that the items do not contain the recommended amount of vitamins and minerals. The recall affects Beneful Prepared Meals, Beneful Chopped Blends, and Pro Plan Savory Meals.

In a press release[2], the company states:

Although most of the recalled product contains all of the vitamins and minerals your dog needs, we recommend that you discard any of the affected product you may have, and we’ll issue you a refund.

They also state that the lack of proper vitamins and minerals could pose an issue for dogs who eat these products as their only meal source for more than several weeks. If this is the case for your pup, you may want to consult your veterinarian.

One wonders whether Beneful and Pro Plan dry dog food has sufficient vitamins and minerals either. Maybe it’s time to look into some other brand of vittles for your furry friends.
