John Hawkins The Democrat Push To Free Terrorists Held By The US

I wonder if Bin Laden realizes how good he has it with people like Jim Moran and John Murtha holding power in Congress? These hapless, "useful idiots" on the left want to force Bush to close Gitmo and either release the terrorists & enemy troops held there or put them in the American court system, where slick liberal lawyers and sympathetic liberal judges can work together to free them to kill again:

"Key House Democrats said Thursday they are considering a plan to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, by the end of 2008, with the exception of several dozen detainees in the war on terror who would be kept at the facility and tried there.

Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., said he hopes to include the provision in legislation this spring that Democrats also intend to use to try to prevent further increases in troop strength in the war in Iraq.

Without public notice, Murtha dispatched Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., to the detention center at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo Bay on a one-day trip late last month to recommend ways for closing it. Both men said the prison has become counterproductive as the United States tries to win converts overseas in the war on terror.

...Moran said there currently are 393 detainees at the prison, and added he had told Murtha about 80 of are likely to face trial, including 14 whom he described as high value targets.

The Virginia lawmaker said 87 other detainees can probably be released without trial and should go either to their country of origin, or if that isn't possible, to Afghanistan, where they were captured.

Moran said he had recommended requiring the administration to review the cases of the remaining detainees promptly and decide which of them should be held for trial and which should be released."

Wanting to try the terrorists/Taliban fighters captured at Gitmo in an American court is every bit as ridiculous as wanting to put the Nazis we captured in the field during WW2 on trial here in the states. The American court system is simply not capable of properly handling foreigners captured during the course of a war by the military.

Soldiers are not policemen. They don't read terrorists their Miranda rights. They don't fill out reports they can use to jog their memory later in court. Our interrogators commonly use techniques that would not be legal back in the states, if they were used on people with Constitutional rights. Some of these men may have been captured using intelligence sources and techniques that should never be revealed in a civilian court room. In other words, there are so many problems with the idea of trying these people in a civilian court that anyone with a half a brain realizes that it will, time and time again, produce acquittals of terrorists and militants who've tried to kill Americans before and will do so again in the future. Murtha, Moran, and the other liberals pushing this know that, but as long as they're not part of the bodycount that will be produced by letting these animals loose to kill again, they don't care.

If you want to deal with the people at Gitmo, you use military tribunals that are properly designed to dispense justice to these people. Granted, if you're just talking about run-of-the-mill fighters in the Taliban, they may have to just sit in the pokey until the war's over to prevent them from getting back into the fight. Of course, the war of terror could last decades, so they could be there a long time, but it seems to me that's something they should have thought about before the took up arms against the US.

Either way, the people being detained at Gitmo absolutely do not belong in an American court room.
