A lot of bloggers and columnists talk about 2008, without telling you whom they're supporting. Me? I think if I'm going to comment on the race, I have an obligation to tell you whom I'm for, so that you can take that into consideration when you read what I have to say.

Out of the top tier candidates, without question, my favorite is Fred Thompson. In fact, after Fred, from my point of view, it's practically pick your poison -- strychnine, arsenic, belladonna, or ricin.

Still, here's the breakdown of whom I'd like to see win out of the top tier contenders,

Vs. Hillary Clinton

5) Mitt Romney: I don't believe he can even make it into a competitive race against Hillary, much less beat her. If he can't win, then there's no point in having him as nominee.

4) Rudy Giuliani: Not only is he the least conservative candidate and much less electable than people think, he would shatter the coalition that has helped the GOP win since 1980 by sending social conservatives the message that they're not valued in the GOP.

3) John McCain: He can beat Hillary, he's a fiscal conservative, and he's hawkish.

2) Mike Huckabee: I think he is the most electable candidate, but I just don't want another big government Republican representing the Party in 2008.

Vs. Barrack Obama (Whom I think all 5 candidates can beat.)

4) John McCain: He is probably more conservative than Huckabee, but I really don't trust McCain's judgment. Moreover, he has been a disaster for the GOP in the Senate and I don't think he deserves a promotion.

3) Mike Huckabee: He is a big government Republican and has a little too much of that Jimmy Carteresque naivete for me to feel comfortable with him as President.

2) Mitt Romney: I think he can beat Barack and I may not trust him, but he's at least making conservative promises.

PS: You have no idea how much it pained me not to put John McCain in the bottom spot on both lists because I absolutely cannot stand him.
