Katie Favazza Somewhat Favorable

For once, the poll on St. Louis mayor Francis Slay's website provides an interesting observation. By now, you've all heard about the Anheuser-Busch takeover. AB (or should I say, Anheuser-InBev) is based in St. Louis, my hometown, and its history within the city is historic.

According to the mayor's poll results, St. Louisians have a "somewhat favorable" opinion of Anheuser-Busch. With movements like SaveAB.com and the shock I saw when I was in the Show Me State last weekend when the takeover deal was finalized, this surprised me. It is important to point out, however, that the poll started before InBev uped the anty to offer $70/share and ended after the deal was set. It's impossible to know how that skewed the results. In any case, the results are by no means scientific.

Personally, I've felt torn by the whole thing. I don't know how many friends of mine will be laid off because of this deal. The capitalist in me says to embrace the takeover with open arms, but the traditionalist in me is hesitant to welcome change. The company wasn't doing as well as it has, but it was by no means suffering tremendously. Other conservatives: What do you think? How do you feel about the takeover of AB, an American institution?
