Right on the eve of the Republican Convention, Gustav is headed towards the coast and it's entirely possible that it will land on Tuesday of next week -- possibly even in New Orleans.

Since the Bush Administration has been unfairly blamed for the incompetence of the locals during Katrina, McCain needs to be ready to differentiate himself from Bush.

That may mean making public statements. It may mean leaving the Republican National Convention and going to Louisiana or Texas. But, whatever the case may be, McCain needs to be keeping a close eye on Gustav and even though he doesn't run FEMA or control the government response, he needs to make absolutely sure that he's viewed as being on top of the situation.
