In the GOP, the American people gave the GOP a much deserved boot in the rear end, in part, because of corruption issues. In return, they got the least competent, least popular Congress in history -- which is run by Democrats.
They also got more corruption as evidenced by this story about Charlie Rangel,
Embattled Harlem Congressman Charles Rangel is facing possible ouster from his powerful committee chairmanship as he scrambles to file new tax returns in a desperate bid to hold on to his job.The amended returns will reflect years of income he never bothered reporting from renting out his beachfront Caribbean villa, his lawyer said yesterday.
House Republicans yesterday pushed Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to dump Rangel as head of the Ways & Means Committee, which writes the nation's tax laws.
"Given Chairman Rangel's continuing ethical lapses, he cannot effectively carry out his duties," nine GOPers wrote to Pelosi.
"It is in the best interest of the public and this representative institution for Rep. Rangel to step down from his chairmanship until his ethical issues have been resolved."
Rangel, a 19-term Democrat, plans a news conference today to announce he'll submit amended federal, state and city tax returns, according to lawyer Lanny Davis.
But Davis waffled on how much Rangel will cough up. He initially said the congressman would repay at least $75,000 he collected from his luxurious home in the Punta Cana Yacht Club in the Dominican Republic.
Hours later, Davis - who represented Bill Clinton during his impeachment hearings - said that Rangel's amended returns would reflect "modest" back taxes, and that the exact amount owed was unclear.
Here's a guy who has been pushing for a massive tax increase and meanwhile, he's not paying his own taxes.
Here's my prediction: this gets swept under the rug and Rangel doesn't lose his chairmanship. Let's see if Nancy Pelosi turns a blind eye to corruption in her own party or actually does the right thing for once.

Fixed that for you, John!

Who runs against him? When does he next come up for reelection?

I'm shocked!
The 'most ethical Congress in history' isn't?
I'm shocked!
A 19-term politician abuses his accrued power because he knows no fear from voter reprisal?
I'm shocked!
A word-parsing, nuanced hair-splitter who'd give you cause to check for your watch after he shook your hand is actually a slimeball, a cheat and a thief?
I'm shocked!
It's several days after the Rangel tax problems became public and Nancy Pelosi, leader of the Most Ethical House Evarrâ„¢, hasn't commented yet?
I'm shocked!
Any bets that the denizens of his district just see his extracurricular financial diddling as just "sticking it to whitey" and therefore make him as, if not more, electable than he was before this 'scandal'? Any bets that the same dead people who voted for Rangel in the last election will rise from their graves once again to vote for him in the next one? Any bets that a serious Democratic challenger for Carlos Rangel's seat has a better chance of being found floating in the East River than getting elected?

Crthns ignored my challenge for several weeks, but I kept bringing it up in corruption threads. When he finally responded, he said he would accept the challenge, when he had time to do more research; and then began taunting me on Republican corruption again.
Well, as you might guess, crthns never came through on the challenge or on his promise to back up his original charge. But since I know he is on here and reading these threads, I invite him to jump back in. The challenge is still open, on this thread it would be on topic, and you can finally keep your promise.
2 for 1, crthns, or whatever name you are posting under now.

Same here, Stan. I'm finding that our libs are either too cowardly or just flat out unable to respond honestly to even the simplest challenges put to them.
I'm amazed at the degree of their childishness.
It's frustrating, it's silly, but I guess I shouldn't bother being surprised.
Oh well....

He both stinks and is very powerful at the same time. Very dangerous. It's also too bad that he would be replaced by the same Harlem Black Business machine even if he could be pushed out.

At the same time, of course, the Inspector General of the Interior Department released a report regarding corruption in the office that collects mineral revenues (e.g., oil lease revenues) for the federal government. This was not the systemic Congressional corruption that brought down, among others, Jim Wright ( D-Tx), Bob Ney ( R-Oh), Duke Cunningham ( R-Ca) and, hopefully, Charlie Rangel ( D- NY) - the Interior Dept scandal is specific to the Bush Administration. Are we beginning to understand why McCain promised to go after corruption in Washington - and did not limit that to Congress? Does anyone else think that Bush, Cheney, Gonzalez, Addington, etc may have more to worry about if McCain is elected than if Obama wins? One more reason to vote for McCain ( hoping he keeps brething and does not accidently make Palin the Queen).

It was Obama who announced that if he wins office that he will have his DoJ investigate Bush. Nothng like politicising Justice, huh? Isn't that what the Democrats have been accusing Bush of doing?
Nope, no change here.
