Because of Her Anti-Cop Views, Pittsburgh Police Refuse to Work Security for Beyonce Concert [VIDEO]

Police in Pittsburgh are refusing to work the Beyonce concert because of her anti-cop hatred. The city is now threatening to force officers to work the concert which is seen as extra income and not mandatory. The FOP is threatening to file a complaint if this goes forward. The Police Chief is contending he did not know there was a controversy, which I find very hard to believe since officers have repeatedly posted on it on the FOP site. Beyonce is touring in support of her “Lemonade” album, which debuted last month at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. The video for the album’s first single, “Formation,” has been criticized by some as anti-police, with its references to racism and police brutality. Her performance of “Formation” at Super Bowl 50 also drew a mixed reception. As it should have. It was an ode to the Black Panthers and Malcolm X. Not only was the theme radically violent, it was racist and anti-cop in the extreme.

From WTAE:

PITTSBURGH — City police officers who believe Beyonce is anti-police are planning to boycott the singer’s May 31 concert at Heinz Field, and the union said it will file a labor complaint if the city forces them to work the secondary employment.

FOP President Robert Swartzwelder said Friday that he is not taking a position on Beyonce, and the union is not calling for a boycott; rather, officers are posting on the FOP website saying that no one should work the show.

“If the city compels police officers to work secondary employment again, it is further demonstration that the city is managing its fiscal responsibility on the backs of its police officers,” said Swartzwelder, referring to when he said city officers were forced to work the Pittsburgh Marathon.

The basis for an unfair labor practice complaint would be if the city forces on-duty officers to work the concert, which is a voluntary employment, Swartzwelder said.

Beyonce has denied being anti-police and professed admiration for officers in media interviews after the “Formation” premiere. She has said that some may be misinterpreting her video’s artistic message. Oh, bull crap. The message and the performance were incredibly clear. Police officers are planning to boycott her concert and I don’t blame them one little bit. Officers should not be forced to work this venue if they have an issue with it. And many, many of them do. Officers are calling for all their fellow officers to not work the concert. It’s time to take a stand against cop hatred. I hope they stand firm on this.
