Poll: Who would you most favor as GOP nominee in 2012?
Written By : John Hawkins

Over at Instpundit, Glenn Reynolds has up a poll asking people who they’d like to see as the GOP nominee in 2012. Since RWN’s readership is probably a little more conservative and a little less Libertarian, I wanted to see how the numbers matched up. With that in mind…

Who would you most favor as GOP nominee in 2012?
Bob Corker
Mitch Daniels
Mike Huckabee
Bobby Jindal
Sarah Palin
Ron Paul
Tim Pawlenty
Mike Pence
David Petraeus
Mitt Romney

Petraeus has done a heroic job in Iraq, but we don't know his politics (that's as it should be).

Jindal is doing some good things for LA, and I think he could similarly do good things as a candidate.

However, I think Palin is the most accessible of the listed choices at the moment. She can articulate complex ideas in ways people understand.

Palin seems a hands-on favorite in both polls. That actually doesn't surprise me.

  • Mike_M

Nobody besides Palin is out there articulating the conservative agenda and challenging the Democrats. If she positions herself as the architect of a GOP comeback in 2010 and the party gains a good number of seats, she'll have the inside track for 2012. If she leads a GOP takeover of the House, Obama will become a lame duck two years early.

  • Bildo

For all his faults, Newt Gingrich seems to be the only guy that "gets it" when it comes to what the Republican Party needs to be, fiscal conservatism, smaller government, balanced budgets, and a party that actually listens when the people tell it what they want. He still seems to favor a term limits amendment.

Unfortunately, he screwed up so badly from a moral and ethical standpoint, I don't think he's electable anymore.

I would sure like to hear more about Petraeus, though…I didn't even think of him as an option before seeing his name in that poll…

I'm betting that our next POTUS isn't well known at this point (who here knew much about Huckabee, Romney, Palin, or Jindal back in 2005?), but I think out of this entire list Pawlenty shows the most promise, nationally speaking. Love her or hater her, I think Palin is going to have major demographic problems outside of the South, both in the primaries and the general election.

Yes, but up until this past election, I would have though that BO would have trouble getting elected too. If he keeps shooting himself in the foot and Palin can keep refining and honig her ability to break things down into simple terms, we might all be very surprised by how many people are willing to seriously consider her. Don't forget that during the past campaign she talked about personal responsibility in such a way that those remarks garnered the highest positive response out of anything said by a candidate thus far in Luntz's focus groups.

Ron Paul? Is there really still a Ron Paul base out there?

  • whats_up

    Please nominate Palin, please

  • http://TheNixonTape.Com Dick_Nixon

Nixon hopes the left nominates Obama again. Nixon looks forward to him defending a $2 trillion dollar deficit, and a trillion and a half added to the national debt for every year of his first term. Especially if a popular fiscal conservative opposes him. Nixon can see Obama losing it in a debate and calling his opponent a racist for pointing out the failed economic policies of the Obamateurs Administration.

I seriously think you would be terribly disapointed in the American people if we do. She's got more support than you realize, and she's alot smarter and more savvy than you like to portray, just like with Reagan. So be careful what you wish for WU.

You want Obama to lose the next election, too?

  • RWNReader2

I'm not certain that Obama won't resign before the end of his term. It's becoming clear that the job is nothing like he thought it would be. The reality that our "problems" were not created by Bush and can't be solved simply by being anti-Bush is beginning to show. He's painted himself into a corner in Afganistan, and it's going to command more and more of his time and burn political capital while he'd rather be talking about green jobs and universal healthcare. And he's going to lose those anyway. Why bother when you show up to save the planet and the job is really more about making the trains run on time. The presidency is just too small for such an important man.

Actually she doesnt, but keep telling yourself that, I just love to listen to her answers during interviews, classic stuff that you simply cant fake, Tin Fey will have a field day if Palin is nominated, and while you might win the south and Alaska, you probably wont win much else.

While what you say about Mr. Obama's problems with governing (as opposed to campaigning) is true, I don't think for a moment that an ego as massive as his would allow him to step down voluntarily. If he were impeached and removed from office, I'd be willing to bet that he'd be so entrenched to leaving he would have to be physically removed from the WH. I think that he'd leave fingernail scratches in the Resolute desk as he tried to cling to it like a redneck clings to his guns and religion.

But I like your final sentence – it captures the very essence of who Barack Hussein Obama is at the heart of it all – a massively egotistical man whose personal arrogance is astoundingly tangible.

I don't know some of these guys, so I couldn't pick them, and the ones I do know about I really wouldn't care to see in the presidency.

  • arcman46

If the Democrats and the Left did not fear Palin, they would have never pulled out all the stops to try to destroy her. You are wrong "What's Up" she has more support then you can even begin to realize. And she is a heck of a lot smarter than "the One", who you guys think is the smartest man in the world. If he is so smart, why doesn't he prove it by releasing his college transcripts?

  • TheBaud

Still waiting on your comments about Obama's 57-State comment. Very stupid statement for a man running for President, wouldn't you say?

How about some proof? Let us see your documented evidence. And no links to gay pron sites like you did last time.

Actually She DOES, unless you can PROVE otherwise and straw polls, not that much of indicator this far from the election, ask Hillary.

  • aharris

Actually, w_u, if Palin got elected, Tina and the rest of her SNL buddies would be jumping for joy because they could count on having at least one funny skit to try to regain relevance with.

  • http://impudent.blognation.us/blog kyle8

Right now It is Honestly too early to say. I have hope that an ACTIVE governor with some good credentials and solid conservative values will rise to the front.

As for Governor Palin. I believe that it will be difficult for her because she has already been typecast to a large part of the electorate, and quitting her job will not help.

I doubt that we need that sort of personality right now.

  • CoolCzech

    Can we nominate THIS guy?

    http://minx.cc/?post=292788

He grew up in Philadelphia, and speaks and sounds more like a real American than the present pretender in the White House.

Heh. I wouldn't care less if he ever produced a birth certificate.

  • http://networdblog.blogspot.com/ Christopher_Taylor

Thaddeus McCotter looks fun, he'd be interesting in the White House, at least.

As much as I like Palin I don’t think she can pull it off. Then again if she grows a tough skin she may. She would just need to be ready to face attacks even more extreme than last time. Though I don’t know how you could get even worse than what happened last year. Palin has been making the rounds doing speeches and such. She has been very articulate and direct. Most people know that it was McCain’s team of Rino’s that sabotaged her last time. You have to search to find any information on them as the MSM is determined not to give her any good press.

  • Raposa

I think Mitch Daniels would be refreshing. A guy who can take a state far enough in the red that was being audited by the federal government and turn it around so that it was getting a surplus? A good choice, at least on the economy.

Of course, no telling what the 'big issues' will be in 2012. But if the election were three months from now, I'd be voting for him.

  • http://networdblog.blogspot.com/ Christopher_Taylor

Sarah Palin as a candidate would face the difficulty of a lot of her base just not wanting a woman in a position of authority – and I'm talking about a lot of the older women on the right.

  • http://TheNixonTape.Com Dick_Nixon

The left is scared shitless over a fiscal conservative like Palin leading the way in the congressional midterms in 2010. They are throwing everything at her now. Out of fear. Fear.

I post on RWN because its easy and fun to fluster political ideologues who are more obsessed with attacking the opposition than they are in boosting their own positive aspects.

Before you compose a reply to this well-known troll, consider what his personal mission here is, as stated in his own words above. As inferred from his own statement, he'll say anything to piss you off. Nothing is too outlandish, nothing is off-limits. He'll insult anything he thinks you hold dear, just to watch you fume and boil. He's here just to piss you off. And he thinks that pissing you off is great fun. Before you post anything in reply to this troll ask yourself a few questions:

Do I want hoggo setting the tone and topics of my discussions here?

Do I want hoggo exploiting my anger at him for his own perverse pleasure?

Do I want to feed more material to this persistent lying troll?

Do I care what hoggo thinks, says or does?

If the answer to any of those questions is "no", and very likely they will all be "no's", then you know what you should do – just walk away and say "No response to hoggo from me today."
