White People Aren’t Allowed To Criticize Nikki Minaj

To be perfectly honest, I don’t watch American Idol and I could not care less about Nikki Minaj or Steven Tyler, but Minaj’s response to Tyler’s criticism still caught my eye[1].

American Idol judge Nicki Minaj today says it’s “racist” of Steven Tyler to predict that she’d probably send Bob Dylan back to “the cornfield” if he appeared as a contestant on the Fox show. The current judge’s backlash on Twitter against the former Idol judge came after Tyler unfavorably compared the present panel to when he was on the show. “If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying,” the Aerosmith lead singer told MTV News Monday. “I know that they’ve got something going on the judges’ panel, [and] it shouldn’t be that, it should be just the opposite. They should have something going on, which is called ‘camaraderie,’” Tyler said in reference to rumors of in-fighting on the judge’s panel between Minaj and Mariah Carrey.

So, any white person who criticizes Niki Minaj for any reason is racist based on the fact that he’s white and she’s black.

If a black woman doesn’t like Niki Minaj’s hair, they may simply disagree about hairstyles. But if a white woman criticizes Niki Minaj’s hair, she’s a racist. If a black man doesn’t like Niki Minaj’s music, maybe he just likes another artist or another style of music. If a white man doesn’t like Niki Minaj’s music, it’s racism. If a Hispanic musician criticizes Niki Minaj’s judging on American Idol, it’s a difference of opinion. If a white musician criticizes Niki Minaj’s judging on American Idol, it’s racism.

Note that works a little differently in politics. White Democrats who vote against black Republicans like Mia Love and Allen West are just voting the issues, but white Republicans who vote against black Democrats are racists. Additionally, white liberals can say exactly the same things that white conservatives do, for exactly the same reasons, but it’s only racism if the conservative says it.

This is why the proper response to “That’s racist” these days has become an eye roll. Racism has a concrete meaning, but 99% of the time, when people say “racism” these days, they just mean, “I don’t like you, what you said or I think you’re winning an argument.” That’s too bad for the actual victims of racism out there, but if people don’t take them seriously, they should blame liberals and people like Nikki Minaj.
