PETA Demands Alterations to the Bible
Written By : Dave Blount

Because political correctness is a totalitarian ideology, imposed by its proponents on every conceivable facet of human existence, language in the latest edition of the New International Version Bible has been altered to eradicate alleged linguistic sexism: forefathers changed to ancestors, he changed to he or she, et cetera. But animal rights militants want input too. After all, as PETA President Ingrid Newkirk has proclaimed,

“A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy.”

That is, there is no difference between an animal and a human, since there is no such thing as a soul and no higher god than leftist political orthodoxy. Therefore:

The organization has petitioned the Committee on Bible Translation to suggest that its next translation remove “speciesist” language, by referring to animals as “he or she” instead of “it.” “When the Bible moves toward inclusively in one area … it wasn’t much of a stretch to suggest they move toward inclusively in this area. Language matters. Calling an animal ‘it’ denies them something. They are beloved by God. They glorify God,” Bruce Friedrich, PETA’s vice president for policy, told CNN.

If Friedrich is rebuffed, let’s hope he doesn’t resort to calling for terrorism, as this noted theologian has done in the past. But then, the odds of anyone in PETA actually reading a Bible are nil, so how would they know whether their demands had been met?

Shouldn’t we let the chickens and other species write in to the committee to let them know whether they are offended by the pronoun ‘it’? Why are the rats speaking for everyone?

Enjoy yourself Dick. Those chickens you’re eating have likely been treated in the most inhumane way, crowded to the point that some die from exhaustion, others die from claustrophobia and constrainment in tiny cages. I would not hope for a similar demise for you, but still, enjoy yourself.

PETA is a remarkable organization and its members among the most decent of human beings.

You can tell a lot about a person by the way he treats his animals, and you can tell a lot about a parent by the way he treats his pets. Perhaps the only reason I would ever come back to this God awful site, is Hawkins dog. And I don’t expect the animal haters parked here to understand.

No they’re not. It’s one thing to wish that animals be treated humanely. I’m all for that. PETA’s motivation seems to be less a love for animals and more a hatred for their fellow human beings. You cannot give an animal rights or
raise it to the level of a human. You can very easily degrade a human to the level of an animal.

I tend to treat food animals with; a bit of garlic, a tad of olive oil salt and pepper, and a red wine deglaze.

If grilling; brine, a dry rub, lemon and/or vinegar and typically 16 hrs in the smoker with hickory wood.

Trust me they are treated well.

So I guess what they want is for the passage in Genesis where Abraham sacrifices a ram on the altar instead of his son Jacob,PETA thinks it should say he sacrificed a basket of artichokes instead….they probably want Noah’s Ark to be seen henceforth as a giant salad bowl

Since when is political correctness an ideology?

You’re confused. Political correctness is not an ideology; it’s a framing of political positions relative to their contexts. For instance, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney (R) instituted a version of compulsory health insurance coverage for the residents of Mass., and that’s completely politically incorrect for conservatives.

There is no one, monolithic political correctness; there are multiple political correctnesses. How politically correct would it be for the GOP crowd if Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown (R) were to come out as Pro-Choice? Wouldn’t it be fair to say that such a position, in such a context, is politically incorrect? Politics are mutable, and what’s correct in one context isn’t in another.

By writing what you did, “political correctness is a totalitarian ideology,” you proved that you are unable to clearly present an audience knowledge and logic with your language. You’re just setting up a smear.

@ Steven in reply to his post “I understand the tea partiers”

Any statement can be made to the extreme as you have done with mississippi and cuba example.

Again you missed the point and James Madison said it well: ”The powers delegated to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the state governments are numerous and indefinite. The former will be exercised principally on external objects, [such] as war, peace, negotiation, and foreign commerce. The powers reserved to the several states will extend to all the objects which, in the ordinary course of affairs, concern the lives, liberties, and properties of the people.”

This quote even covers your stupid statement about mississippi and cuba.

Or the 10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

Understand the Tea Party position now?

Tea Party people understand that – if it is going to be instituted, it should be done on the state level, not the federal level, just like car insurance requirements and drinking and driving laws.

It’s not what I understand; it’s my belief that a government mandate to purchase an insurance product is anathema to liberty purists, which the tea party crowd largely is. There going to hear explanations like yours and think, “excuses, excuses.”

I know the difference, and a connotation isn’t an presumption. What also doesn’t advance a conversation is bigotry. Political correctness isn’t a one-sided phenomenon, and it’s fair to point it out like I did when the author is attempting to simply tar his opponents. The tar sticks to him.

I think you need to look up the definition of the word “ideology,” because you just described one and insisted it is no such thing. Second you are describing “political correctness” in terms not used and not understood in modern culture. PC has a specific, leftist agenda meaning which you are attempting to pretend simply does not exist, and are defining the phrase by looking at the two words separately as if there is no context or history behind the phrase.

In other words, you’re being deliberately disingenuous.

      • Stephen D. Clark

I never said there’s no such thing as ideology. Please quote me when you want to charge me so I can understand what you’re talking about.

Political correctness is not an ideology because various ideologies have their own political correctnesses. It’s a quality of a collection of various positions and opinions within the context of a particular ideology.

There’s liberal political correctness, conservative political correctness, socialist political correctness, Nazi political correctness, Green Party political correctness.

It’s not one ideology, it’s a characteristic that pertains to all.

Just because you’re having difficulty understanding my point doesn’t make me disingenuous, and if it’s okay for you to accuse me of that, then it’s okay for me to call you dense.

        • http://www.wordaroundthenet.com Christopher Taylor

I didn’t claim you said there was no such thing as ideology. Nor did I imply any such thing.

You simply are trying to redefine Political Correctness in a manner no one understands or uses the term now, deliberately, to avoid the uncomfortable conclusion that the writer is correct when he identifies it as an ideology.

Either you’re clueless about what PC means, or you’re being deliberately deceptive. Neither one is particularly attractive.

          • Stephen D. Clark

I’m neither clueless nor deceptive. Since you want to make it personal, then I’m free to say that you’re the one who needs a lie for an advantage.

I know what you mean when you say it, and it’s not fair. You’re apparently upset that I would try to deprive you of an unfair advantage in perpetuating falsehoods. Too bad.

          • http://www.wordaroundthenet.com Christopher Taylor

Well you can try to play the passive aggressive game all you want but everyone reading your posts knows what political correctness means – the left borrowed the term from Lenin and started applying to to everything from music to conversation and it has a specific meaning.

I understand that as a leftist you probably don’t believe in absolute truth, but everyone else does. Words have meanings, and you’re trying to ignore that to score a cheap political point.

          • Stephen D. Clark

What’s passive about criticizing the ability of an author to formulate coherent ideas?

If people think that political correctness is a phenomenon limited to one particular ideology, then they don’t know what it means. I don’t take it on your authority that “the left borrowed the term from Lenin and started applying to to everything from music to conversation.” I’ll want to inspect some citations on that.

I’m not a “leftist.” It just looks that way to people who’re extreme right.

Words have meanings, you’re right, and my criticism is intended to hold someone accountable for them.

    Dear PETA:

Perhaps you are unaware, but the Bible is not restricted under copyright laws. Anyone can translate their own version of the Holy Bible. By “anyone,” I mean you.

Please, PETA, do grace the world with your own personal interpretation of the Bible. I ask this for three reasons. First, it will get rid of this stupid demand. Second, it will have the side effect of getting you to read the Bible, and that can only benefit you. Third, I will buy it because I always need more humor on my bookshelf.

    Most sincerely,

    Jamie W.

Best response of the thread. As noted below, this is about publicity and fundraising, not about accomplishing any goals.
