We Can’t Dictate What People Do Here Based On What Illiterate Muslim Savages Do Over There

You have a First Amendment RIGHT to burn a Koran, just as you have a First Amendment Right to burn a Bible, a Torah, or a Bhagavad Gita. However, I wouldn’t recommend burning any of those books simply because it’s needlessly offensive to people of other faiths.

Still, there’s only one religion that has followers that use the desecration of their holy book as an excuse to go on a murderous rampage. That would be Muslims.

The latest of countless violent incidents that are directly associated with the Muslim faith is in Afghanistan,

The Quran burning by a Florida church, which sparked three days of deadly rioting in Afghanistan, poses new dangers for the U.S.-led war effort against the Taliban, coalition commander U.S. Gen. David Petraeus warned in an interview.

Gen. Petraeus, who commands some 150,000 U.S. and allied troops here, spoke after Afghan rioters angered by reports of the sacrilege sacked the United Nations compound in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif, killing seven foreigners, and went on a lethal rampage in the southern city of Kandahar, waving Taliban flags.

The deadly rioting, which the Taliban say erupted spontaneously, has shocked the international community and highlighted the vulnerability of the embattled Afghan government. Urban mob violence against Western targets adds a disturbing new threat in a country that is fighting a mostly rural insurgency, and where foreign and local security forces are ill-prepared for riot control.

“Every security force leader’s worst nightmare is being confronted by essentially a mob, if you will, especially one that can be influenced by individuals that want to incite violence, who want to try to hijack passions, in this case, perhaps understandable passions,” Gen. Petraeus said in the Sunday interview. “Obviously it’s an additional serious security challenge in a country that faces considerable security challenges.”

Back in September, when Terry Jones of the World Dove Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., first announced his intention to burn Islam’s holy book, Gen. Petraeus publicly urged the preacher to abandon the plan, saying it would be exploited by the Taliban and endanger the lives of American soldiers. Rev. Jones’s church shelved the idea at the time. But then he reversed course and his church held a “trial” of the Quran and incinerated the book in a videotaped ceremony March 20.

“This was a surprise,” Gen. Petraeus said. The Quran burning in Florida, he added, was “hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant.”

You know what else isĀ “hateful, extremely disrespectful and enormously intolerant?” Muslims using the Koran being burned in another country as an excuse to slaughter innocent people.

Isn’t it a little ironic that in this country, every time someone raises an eyebrow at a Muslim they’re accused of a hate crime? Meanwhile, nary a day passes without a Muslim murdering somebody in the name of his religion — even as we’re told again and again, that their religion has nothing to do with it. Someone stop telling us that Islam is a religion of peace and explain it to the Jihadis. They’re apparently the ones who’re confused about it.

That’s not to say that every Muslim is an ignorant, violent savage like the rioters in Afghanistan. Certainly, that’s not true — and I wish more people would start acting like it instead of continuing on with the bigotry of low expectations.

Do you know what I’d want to happen if Christians started murdering Muslims because somebody in the world burned a Bible? I’d want them arrested. Moreover, if there were a violent mob of Christians trying to murder people, I wouldn’t be aghast at tommygunning the whole group of them. Not only would that protect the innocent, it would probably send a very productive message about the end results of rioting.

Instead, what are we told? We’re told that we have to accommodate a bunch of Islamic savages who probably sign their own names with X’s. If somebody, somewhere in the world burns a Koran, then Muslims all across the world have an excuse to go nuts. If someone draws a Muhammad cartoon, Muslims across the whole world have an excuse to murder people. If someone says something bad about Islam, then the Muslim street might erupt.

So, are we supposed to live our whole lives fretting over what these backwards barbarians are going to do? Are we supposed to be careful of everything we say because some Muslim with anger management issues in another country will flip out? To hell with that.

Here’s the reality: I’m a Christian. That means I don’t think that Muhammad was a holy man. I think he was just a man and not even a good man or someone worth emulating. In other words, Muhammad was a warlord and Allah doesn’t exist. So, if you’re a Muslim, you should stop worshipping a false God and should covert to Christianity, so you have a chance to be saved.

Am I not allowed to say that because some toothless primate in the backwoods of Pakistan or Afghanistan might hear about it from someone who can read and get offended?

Here’s a better idea: Instead of instituting some sort of unique global speech code to keep from making Muslims angry, how about using as much force as necessary to protect people from the mob? If that means a lot of dead rioters, so be it. If it means giving some Muslim Imams who are stirring up violence in the backwaters of Afghanistan a fair trial and then a speedy hanging, that works, too.

Whatever the case may be, we have free speech rights here and as long as we do, there’s going to be SOMEBODY, saying SOMETHING, that will offend Muslims SOMEWHERE. That’s reality and Westerners need to stop catering to Islam and need to start insisting that Muslims act like civilized human beings, too. Incidentally, moderate Muslims who are sickened by this sort of brutality in the name of Islam should be just as loud as everyone else about it.

PS: I understand that Petraeus is trying to calm things down over there, but referring to this as “understandable” is extremely stupid. Not only is he justifying mob violence, he’s setting himself up for repeats of this dog and pony show every time someone does something to offend the world’s most easily offended people.
