Poll Shows GOP Standing Tough On Border Most Important Issue

Is it?

(Breitbart[1]) Polling data compiled by Tea Party Patriots and provided exclusively to Breitbart News shows that a majority of Republican voters think Republicans standing strong on immigration is more important than repealing Obamacare, getting to the bottom of the Benghazi or IRS scandals–or anything else for that matter.

When asked by TPP’s pollster which issue they think is the important for Republicans in Congress to deal with, 34.6 percent of GOP voters said stopping the flow of illegal immigrants across our southern border. Stopping Obama’s “illegal overreach” with executive power came in a distant second with 24 percent of GOP voters saying that’s the most important, while 23 percent saying repealing Obamacare is the most important and just 7.2 percent say the IRS scandal is the most important issue and 2.8 percent say the Benghazi scandal is most important. A total of 8.4 percent of GOP voters said they don’t know or refused to answer.

The poll was conduced with 1,000 likely GOP voters on Thursday, July 24 via a combination of cell phones and landlines nationwide, with a margin of error of 3.2 percent.

I do have to wonder how much of this is simply related to the current illegal immigrant issue, and if this would have been different a few months ago. And, if it will be different a few months from now, when there will surely be some other crisis that replaces this one.

On the bright side, the NY Times is apparently very upset over the “Rebellion inside the GOP[2]”

Conservatives in the House rebelled against their leadership on Thursday to scuttle an emergency spending measure that addressed the migrant crisis at the southern border, pushing the issue to a showdown on Friday as lawmakers prepared to leave for a five-week recess. The unexpected turmoil offered a coda to the dysfunction that has gripped the Capitol for much of the year.

The failure of the comparatively modest Republican border bill, coupled with the Senate’s own inability to even bring a Democratic alternative to a vote, emphasized how the prospects of a broad immigration overhaul – which at the beginning of the 113th Congress held great bipartisan promise – have ground to a crashing halt.

William Kristol[3] noted several good reasons to kill the bill, one of which is that Senate Democrats wouldn’t take it up and Obama threatened to veto it[4]. John Boehner will give it one more try today[5]. Perhaps Ted Cruz’ anti-deferred action bill[6] will get a vote?

Unfortunately, GOP leadership, squishy and Dem-lite as always, just doesn’t get it. Instead of going with squishy methods, get tough. Stand on Law. Ignore the idiots using personal invective and ask them to put forth exactly what they want to pass and why. Put Democrats on the defensive, force them to defend amnesty for illegals/law breakers. Republicans should listen to the people who vote for them.

No one should possibly think this crisis just happened, not with the mid-terms coming up. This issue is a way to change the dynamics away from Obamacare, the stagnant economy, and Obama over-reach, and paint Republicans as heartless and worthless. And, if Republicans give in to Democrats, that will keep Republicans and Conservatives home on election day.
