Republican Congressman Justin Amash: Obama ‘setting The Stage For Something Very Dangerous In The Future’

Obama has been a historically bad President in many ways and the precedents he’s setting are one of the worst parts of it.

President Barack Obama’s strengthening of the executive branch may jeopardize America’s future, Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) told an online conservative news outlet.

“I think it’s scary the direction the government is going, regardless of whether you have a Republican President or a Democratic President,” Amash told The Daily Caller. “We have an executive branch that is getting way too powerful, and President Obama is setting the stage for something very dangerous in the future.”

The libertarian firebrand added that it is the responsibility of Congress to put a check on the executive branch’s power.

“I think as a Congress we need to step up and point out and take charge and point out when the President is going beyond his constitutional powers, which is frequent, and we have got to do something about it and we haven’t done that as a Congress,” he reportedly said.

Obama is creating a world where the President of the United States can ignore requests from Congress at will, nullify the law of the land by refusing to enforce it, use neutral government agencies like the IRS against his enemies and unilaterally change the law in any way he likes and he has the wholehearted support of the entire Democrat Party in doing all of those things. Granted, Democrats wouldn’t support a Republican in the same situation, but once the precedent is set, that becomes irrelevant. If Obama does those things, future Presidents, including Republicans, may very well decide to use his precedent going forward. Put plainly, it’s dangerous for our republic to have a President as lawless as Obama.
