Kneecapping Barack Obama at every opportunity. | ||
There are many different measures of popularity in the blogosphere. Of course, the most important of these measures is simply the number of readers you have. However, as we all know, sometimes fate can be fickle and some of the best writers don't necessarily get the credit they deserve. So I decided to do a limited survey of the blogosphere to see which blogs the other bloggers out there liked best.
I emailed 41 bloggers, many of some repute, and asked them rank their favorite bloggers from 1 to 10. I also told them that they were not allowed to rank themselves or Right Wing News (since we were doing the survey). I also gave them a fairly limited amount of time to respond in to lessen the chance of collaboration among bloggers who knew each other. Of the 41 bloggers I contacted, 22 decided to participate. Their blogs are as follows....
Amish Tech Support, Tim Blair, Captain Scott's Electric Love Bunker, Croooow Blog, Daily Pundit, Daimnation!, Dawson Speaks, Kim Du Toit, Tal G. in Jerusalem, Juan Gato's Bucket O' Rants , Give War A Chance, Ideas, Etc, Joanne Jacobs, Live...From The WTC, Overlawyered, Piquant Rants And Sassy Impudence By Rachael Lucas, Rebecca's Pocket, Transterrestrial Musings, Up Yours And More Helpful Hints, USS Clueless, The Volokh Conspiracy, & Matt Welch.
Before we get to the actual rankings, here a few more caveats to consider. Most of the bloggers who were polled do politically oriented blogs so it's not surprising that they tended to select other politically oriented blogs. Furthermore, most (but not all) of the bloggers polled tend to lean to the right politically which also probably affected their selections.
Last but not least, let me give you quick briefing on how the scoring worked. The first priority in scoring was simply how many different bloggers selected a blog as one of their top 10 selections. The second priority (in the event of a tie between blogs) was average rank.
So for example: If ABCBLOG was selected by 4 of the bloggers polled and 123BLOG was selected by 3 of the bloggers polled, ABCBLOG would be ranked ahead of 123BLOG.
If both blogs were selected by 4 of the bloggers polled, then the tiebreaker would be the average rank of each blog.
So for example if we had a comparison between ABCBLOG (1, 1, 1, 1) [This indicates they had 4 different first place votes] and 123BLOG (2, 2, 2, 2) [This indicates they had 4 different second place votes] then ABCBLOG would be ranked ahead of 123BLOG.
Understand the scoring? Good, then let's get to it shall we? We have 6 'Honorable Mentions' that almost made the cut and then the top 15 ranked blogs.
Honorable Mentions: Blogcritics, Give War A Chance, IMAO, Tony Pierce, Scrappleface, Natalie Solent
