As the Carolina Panthers Go On The Market, Colin Kaepernick Plans To Become Part Owner of the Team

81 year-old Jerry Richardson decided to put the Carolina Panthers up for sale on Sunday evening and it was no surprise that there were plenty of people willing to throw their hat (and cash) in the ring for a chance to own the football team.

Perhaps the most shocking part of the announcement was learning that former 49ers player Colin Kaepernick wanted to group up with Diddy and Steph Curry to become co-owners of the NFL team. Diddy, who planned to buy the team outright, claimed that he would “address the Colin Kaepernick situation” if he were to become owner, as well as making a few big promises to fans.

The rapper and producer wanted to make it publicly known that he plans to buy the Panthers and will lead them to win “multiple Super Bowls.” He posted his plans on Instagram in what sounded like a victory lap.

“The North Carolina Panthers are up for sale. I believe it’s time to turn the franchise over to new ownership,” he wrote. “I need to send a message out to everybody in the beautiful state of North Carolina: I will be the best NFL owner that you can imagine. I will immediately address the Colin Kaepernick situation and put him in the running for next year’s starting quarterback. It’s just competition, baby! It’s just competition.”

“But also, I will have the best halftime show, the best selection of music and we will win [multiple Super Bowls],” he continued.

So yes, he planned to bring Kaepernick back into the NFL by putting him on the team. But that was before these tweets came out.

The Panthers have been valued at a high price of $2B. It’s insane to think someone would actually shell out that much money just to buy a bunch of guys in jerseys, but I guess everyone has to have their niche.

If Diddy were to purchase the team, he’d be the first African-American to have a majority share in an NFL team and an idea that has garnered the support of many including Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Do you think Diddy, Kaepernick and Curry would be a good ownership group? Do you think someone who is part owner would also play on the team? I think Kaepernick would do one or the other, personally. He’ll either lead, or play. Of course if he decides lead, we might as well just rename the team to the Carolina Social Justice Warriors.
