The Obama administration can spin it like a top. The Democrats can try to blame Bush (it was they who refused to make tax cuts permanent). The Heritage Foundation has a calculator to analyze how much:

The constant refrain from those who oppose the tax relief is that they benefited only the rich. If the tax cuts expire as scheduled, this myth will be proven untrue once and for all. But taxpayers don’t have to wait until next year to see how much bigger a bite Uncle Sam will take. The Tax Foundation recently created a tax calculator that will show them how much more they will pay in taxes next year.

Go here and plug in your data and be horrified.

Bonus points: Now imagine how taking this money out of the private sector, out of your spending money, is going to harm the economy generally. The government will lose more in lost taxes than it gains. Count on it.

I distinctly remember seein Dick Gephardt lament about tax cuts stating that it was an unacceptable loss of Government POWER!!! I'm thoroughly convinced that liberals like him genuinely believe that people HAVE to be controlled by a cradle-to-grave government, after all, that's what his ilk in Congress are trying to acheive right now! Simply put, these tax increases are more of our hard-earned money being confiscated and either doled out to non-acheivers in handouts to buy votes, or handed to union fatcats for election support. Let's not forget about Nanny Pelosi's big passenger jet, ferrying her from DC to San Fran at @ $30,000 of our tax dollars for a one-way trip, along with her $100,000 liquor tab. OH, and Emperor Obama's junket to Oslo for the failed Olympic in Chicago bid? Remember, he used TWO executive jets to bring him and his brood over there, let alone a separate plane for the dog on his Maine junket!

The expiration of the so-called PAYGO plan ended the first budget surplus since 1957. To bad the PAYGO plan expired before the BUSH tax cuts were enacted. Under the PAYGO plan, the Republican administration and Republican congress would have been forced to offset the tax cuts with federal budget cuts.

I see you do not understand how PAYGO works. If government revenues increase after a tax cut (as they did under Bush's), then PAYGO wouldn't factor in to the equation at all.

PAYGO could have helped prevent many of the Republican travesties that we saw in the double-aughts, such as Medicare Rx, No Child Left Behind, Bush's Farm Bills, and TARP… but it wouldn't have prevented the Tax Cuts, which were and remain a good idea.

President Obama said he'd follow Paygo and so did the sitting congress. Which they did not even try to, not once. I'm fine with the concept; the left is not. Every conservative wants congress to only spend what it takes in, at most. That requires cuts – every leftist wants congress to spend whatever it wants then raise taxes to try to catch up.
