A Reader Comment Worth Posting – A Look at Canadian Health Care
When Sen. Ted Kennedy was diagnosed with cancer, I was possibly the first writer to look at what his treatment would be like if he were to be treated under the type of health care system he and other Democrats had been promoting for years. I called it “Ted Kennedy’s Cancer Treatment Under Socialized Medicine.”
I took a lot of flak for it, but I thought it was a good article. Now I am convinced of it.
It received a comment today, even though it was written back in May.
The comment read:
I’m a Canadian. We have a very famous medicare program here. I am also a patient with cancer. I can assure everyone reading this article that everything the writer has said is true. My condition is now terminal, but looking back it is quite obvious to me that the best thing I could have done would have been to go to the States. YOU DON”T KNOW WHAT THESE BUREAUCRATS ARE LIKE!!! I needed a particular treatment. It is not available in Canada. It is available in the US, Britain, France, Germany, Italy , Japan and even Brazil. But it is not available in Canada because they have not verified yet whether it is safe to use on Canadians. The Canadian procedure costs $150,000 and doesn’t work. The American procedure costs $10,000 and has a 95% cure rate. So I said why not send me to the United States: I will actually be cured and it will save you $140,000. They said no; that would be admitting that the Americans did something better than us. There are a lot of sanctimonious Canadians who have a wart removed and then preach about how wonderful our medicare system is.
Don’t believe them.
Thank you for commenting Loren. I’ll be praying for you, and for our country. Hopefully we don’t create similar situations for cancer victims in America. Hopefully we can continue to be the world’s medical back-up plan. Hopefully the socialists don’t convince America that the government running health care is a good idea.
But Barack doesn’t foster a lot of hope for me. Ironic, isn’t it?
