Bill Making English The Official Language of US Is Gaining Big Support in Congress

I’d like to get excited about this,[1] but I’m more in the “Meh” category right now:

In defiance of a likely veto by President Barack Obama, House members are continuing to sign on to a bill that would designate English as the official language of the United States.

The bill is nominally bipartisan, with two Democrat cosponsors, but most of its support comes from Republicans, 90 of whom have now signed on at last count.

Why am I “Meh?”

This sums it up:

Experts say that the bill has very little chance of being enacted into law, particularly given the Democrat-controlled Senate and White House, but those chances may improve after the November midterm elections.

Only if Republicans win enough seats in the Senate to override a veto.

And seriously, do we want to be talking about overriding a veto on this bill, or on a bill that lowers taxes, or balances the budget or mandates increased border security?

There are bigger priorities and I just wish we had a party that could A) see them and B) act on them.

But maybe I’m wrong. What do you think?

Also, click here[2] and see if your Representative is on board with the bill.
