Columbia Is Gone

Columbia Is Gone: I normally don’t post on the week-end, but this is exceptional situation. As I’m sure all of you know, the Columbia “disintegrated in flames 200,000 feet above north central Texas today, killing all seven astronauts aboard.”

The President spoke about the Columbia this afternoon and you can read the text of his remarks here.

Here is the end of the President’s speech…

“In the skies today we saw destruction and tragedy. Yet farther than we can see there is comfort and hope. In the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens. Who created all these? He who brings out the starry hosts one by one and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

The same Creator who names the stars also knows the names of the seven souls we mourn today. The crew of the shuttle Columbia did not return safely to Earth; yet we can pray that all are safely home.

May God bless the grieving families, and may God continue to bless America.”

Also, you might want to look at this thread on Free Republic. They had made a post to talk about watching the shuttle come in and they continued to post as things turned to tragedy.

I’ll be back on Monday and by then there will be a lot more information about what happened this morning. In the interim, I’m sure the Drudge Report will do an excellent job of covering this calamity. Also, my condolences go out to the family & friends of all the people on the Columbia.
