Denzel Washington Speaks TRUTH When Asked About ‘Lack Of Diversity’ In the Oscars [VIDEO]

Remember the #OscarsSoWhite controversy? Yes, sorry to bring up bad memories, but this is important. Remember how polarized Hollywood got over the issue? Well, it hasn’t changed much…not that you care what the crazies in Hollywood do, but there are a few good ones out there and I believe Denzel Washington could be one of them.

With his Oscar buzz surrounding him for his new film ‘Fences’, 60 Minutes decided to get an interview and the vastly successful 61 year-old Oscar winner disclosed what he thought about the industry’s perceived diversity issues.
When asked his opinion on the Oscars being picked apart for a lack of diversity, Denzel was moved to ponder on his own experience:
‘I don’t have to think about it, I’ve lived it’ said the Hollywood icon, before adding ‘I’ve been the guy at the Oscars without my name being called, I’ve been the guy at the Oscars when my name is called, I’ve been at the Oscars when everybody thought they were going to call my name and they didn’t. I’ve lived it.’
He was then given the opportunity to respond to those that would see the process as ‘unfair’…and respond he did…very frankly, I might add:
‘Yeah and so what? Give up? If you’re looking for an excuse, you’ll find one, you can find it wherever you’d like, you can’t live like that. Just do the best you can do.’

Now how do you argue with that? You don’t. First off, it’s Denzel-Freaking-Washington, so you can just shut your mouth, and second off, doesn’t what he said just ring true to your heart? The man spoke a truth that our fathers and great grandfathers would have given, and I don’t know about yours, but mine were no crybabies.
Aside from the Oscar controversy not being a controversy at all, Washington gives some sound advice to those demanding ‘fairness’ – life ain’t fair. It never has been and it never will be. Don’t cheat yourself out of experiencing the unfairness life has to offer. It could serve you better than anything ever given to you for free.
