FIRST CLASS: VP-Elect Mike Pence Responds To ‘Hamilton’ Lecture And To His Critics [VIDEO]

VP-Elect Pence went to the theater with his daughter and some other folks. He was very fortunate to have obtained tickets to Lin Manuel Miranda’s smash hit “Hamilton.” By all accounts and according to reviews, the show is incredible on every level. Tickets are well nigh impossible to come by with a very long waiting list. Americans, it seems, cannot get enough of the musical version of Hamilton and Burr.

But Pence got a little more than he bargained for when he attended the show in New York. After the show had ended, the cast asked him to listen to a message they had for him. Actor Brandon Dixon, who plays Aaron Burr, stood and delivered this message to Pence:

“Vice President-elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us here at ‘Hamilton: An American Musical.’ We really do. We sir, we are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights.”

Now, whatever we think of the content of the message, whether we agree with the fear that was expressed or whether we think it’s a bit much, the message was delivered politely. So the quarrel isn’t necessarily with the message itself or the style in which it was given, but with the assumption that this was the place and time for such a message; “lecturing” the VP-Elect, as it were. All the guy did was go to the theater. And he got a free political lecture thrown in, even if he and the other audience members didn’t want it.

No one faults people, even Hamilton cast members, for having political views. It is the idea that the Left seems to think that every platform, every situation and every moment of every day is to be leveraged to promote their political perspective. From CEOs to baristas, teachers to students, and actors to sports figures; everyone thinks it is their calling to take a “stand” every day even in nonpolitical environments and disseminate their viewpoint. It has become tiresome. Can we please just watch the show, play the football game, serve the coffee, or teach the lesson…free from the preaching of personal politics?

But as tiresome as it is, our VP-Elect Mike Pence took it like a champ, was not offended and had good things to say about the show. His response is the response of a mature adult. And he is going to be an excellent second in command. He may have been blindsided by Hamilton, but he’s got the patience of Job. Kudos to Pence for his classy response to a not-so-classy surprise lecture. See his response in video below.
