John Hinckley Jr., The Man Who Shot Ronald Reagan, Set Free From Mental Hospital…

On March 30, 1981, in a deranged attempt to impress actress Jodie Foster, John Hinckley Jr. shot President Ronald Reagan. (Scroll down for original video of the attempted assassination.) Reagan, thanks to the quick thinking and action of his Secret Service detail who pushed him out of harm’s way and into the safety of the Presidential limousine, survived the attack and went on to become one of our greatest Presidents. Hinckley went on to be incarcerated in a mental institution. Today, 35 years later, Hinckley has been released into the care of his family in Williamburg, VA.

America is fortunate that his attempt on Reagan’s life failed. The authorities have apparently decided he is no longer a threat to anyone. Hopefully, that proves true. Hinckley will have a number of restrictions on him as he “rejoins society”. We don’t know what Hinckley is like today. But his heinous act is infamous. When he gets home, will he have to register with the “assassin wannabe registry”? Or will his neighbors be kept in the dark?

In addition to being a great President, Reagan also was well known for his snappy self-deprecating sense of humor. Upon seeing his beloved wife Nancy in the emergency room after being shot, his characteristic comic timing was in evidence when he said to her “Honey, I forgot to duck”.
