Moonbat Compares Lockerbie Bomber To G’itmo Vacationers

Just to prove the old saying that Liberals will use any excuse to push their deranged agenda. Aaron Zelinsky manages to link Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi, the only man convicted in the Lockerbie bombing, who was released from jail to return home to Lybia, as he is dying of prostate cancer, to the jihadis in Guantanamo Bay. Lockerbie’s Lesson: Move Guantanamo Detainees to the U.S.

The images of al-Megrahi’s triumphant return to Libya are particularly galling since the vast majority of al-Megrahi’s victims were American nationals. If al-Megrahi had been tried, convicted, and jailed in the United States, he would die where he belongs: in a jail cell.

Yet, the acts were committed in Scotland, so, that is where justice had to take place. I have a sneaky suspicion that, had that occurred with todays moonbats around, a good chunk of them would have blamed it on Bush, saying it was an inside job, and that al-Megrahi was an innocent pawn. And, I would further postulate that most liberals would be wondering what the United States did to cause this tragedy.

Moreover, if Congress does not relent on its refusal to allow the transfer of Guantanamo into the U.S., we may well see terrorists who have killed Americans released to heroes’ welcomes in the future.

Or, hey, we could just keep them there as long as we want, which, under the rules of the Geneva Convention, is allowed. Obama could reverse a huge Bush mistake – and, yes, it was a big mistake to say the jihadis were not entitled to GC coverage – and say he would fully apply the GCs to them, so we could keep them there till they die or the GWOT is over.

Furthermore, it has been liberals who have pushed for these Gitmo inmates to be released in other countries, friendly and not so friendly. Interestingly, most of their home countries do not want them back, because they are…….dangerous!

After President Obama pledged to shut down Guantanamo, Congress passed legislation prohibiting the transfer of any ex-Guantanamo detainees to the U.S. mainland. As a result, the Obama administration is now feverishly negotiating with foreign countries to take Guantanamo detainees. Once these detainees are transferred, the United States will lose control over them. Even if some are convicted for crimes against Americans, we will have no say as to their sentences, paroles, or future “compassionate release.”

So, how about just keeping them at Gitmo? Makes sense. Except in Liberal World.

If these men are convicted in a full and fair proceeding, they will face significant jail sentences, just like al-Megrahi. These sentences should be served in the United States, not overseas.

Are you sure of that? What about when the government cannot reveal secret information in open court? Where will you put them? Almost no state and locality wants them. Say, how about we put them near wherever it is you live, Aaron? That would be OK, right?

Anyhow, why convict them? Why even bring them on to United States mainland soil? Leave them in Guantanamo to rot. Of course, that is not the actual agenda. Guantanamo drives the left nuts. Why? Because it was opened while Bush was president. Furthermore, they would very much like to see secret government information exposed in court, and the jihadis get minimal jail sentences at the most, then released into the US population, if not be totally exonerated.

BTW, Zelinsky does have an (unintentional) point: al-Megrahi would probably have died in a US jail cell if he was over here. But, probably not from prostate cancer. Only 19% of those who contract prostrate cancer die in the United States. 57% of Britons who contract it die from it. Furthermore, those in North America have a higher incidence of prostrate cancer then in Europe, primarily because our wonderful health care system diagnoses it much earlier than in other countries. Eh, probably just some doctors being overzealous in an attempt to make money.
