Nelson Mandela Goes Off His Rocker
Nelson Mandela Goes Off His Rocker: Oh boy, Nelson Mandela is losing it. Just listen to some of the nonsense he’s spouting in this MSNBC interview…
Then the United States chose to arm and finance the [Islamic] mujahedin in Afghanistan instead of supporting and encouraging the moderate wing of the government of Afghanistan. That is what led to the Taliban in Afghanistan.
This is complete and utter gibberish. By the time the Afghan war started in 1979 there was no such thing as a “moderate wing” in Afghanistan. There were groups of mujahedin fighting a Soviet puppet government. By the time we started sending money into Afghanistan the invasion was already a given / or the invasion had already begun (depending on which story from the Carter administration that you believe.) Furthermore, the claim that our backing of the mujahedin during the Afghan war caused the rise of the Taliban is leftist drivel that’s been floating around at least since 9/11. The Taliban came out of Pakistan in 1994 and didn’t capture Kabul until 1996. We were out of Afghanistan by 1989.
“If you look at those matters, you will come to the conclusion that the attitude of the United States of America is a threat to world peace. Because what [America] is saying is that if you are afraid of a veto in the Security Council, you can go outside and take action and violate the sovereignty of other countries. That is the message they are sending to the world. That must be condemned in the strongest terms. And you will notice that France, Germany Russia, China are against this decision. It is clearly a decision that is motivated by George W. Bush’s desire to please the arms and oil industries in the United States of America.”
Oh geeze, he sounds like a member of the lunatic fringe with that, “arms and oil industries” comment. I wonder if he’d have still favored ending apartheid in South Africa if “France, Germany Russia, China” had been opposed to it?
“But what we know is that Israel has weapons of mass destruction. Nobody talks about that. Why should there be one standard for one country, especially because it is black, and another one for another country, Israel, that is white.”
Now the whole ‘war on terrorism’ is just another example of “the man” trying to keep a brother down.
“But people like Dick Cheney… I see yesterday there was an article that said he is the real president of the United States of America, I don’t know how true that is.”
I’ve never really paid a lot of attention to Mandela. Has he always been this dopey or is this a recent development?
