No Blizzard Can Ever Keep These Soldiers From Their Duty
If you are discouraged or flagging in your duty, remember these courageous and dedicated soldiers who stand guard no matter what may come. We can draw hope and encouragement from their determination. Washington DC may be shut down due to a blizzard, but honor never takes a snow day. What do you think of these soldiers?
But as the winds pick up speed and the snow piles up, the men who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier never stop keeping watch.
The Sentinel’s Creed, which these brave men memorize, is:
“My dedication to this sacred duty
is total and whole-hearted.
In the responsibility bestowed on me
never will I falter.
And with dignity and perseverance
my standard will remain perfection.
Through the years of diligence and praise
and the discomfort of the elements,
I will walk my tour in humble reverence
to the best of my ability.
It is he who commands the respect I protect,
his bravery that made us so proud.
Surrounded by well meaning crowds by day,
alone in the thoughtful peace of night,
this soldier will in honored glory rest
under my eternal vigilance.”
These 99 words describe the meaning of their duty. They will often use the words “Line-6” by Tomb Guards while they converse within their chain of command.
As Americans we are proud of these sentinels who never fail. May God bless our soldiers and may He look with favor on this great nation.
