Outrage as man who was held in jail for 4 months without bail after stealing snacks from a 7-Eleven is found ‘starved to death’

A mentally ill person, who was in jail for four months for stealing $5 worth of snacks from a 7-11, was found “starved to death” in his jail cell. Did we mention that he was being held without bail? Because I’m not sure if the story is terrible enough

Jamycheal Mitchell was arrested in April after taking a bottle of Mountain Dew, a Snickers bar and a Zebra Cake from a 7-Eleven in Portsmouth, Virginia.

The 24 year old was kept in custody without bail, despite only facing misdemeanor charges, until guards discovered his body on the floor of his cell on Wednesday.

A judge said he was unfit to stand trial and asked he be sent to Eastern State mental health hospital – but they allegedly said they had no beds left.

His family claimed that he starved to death after refusing meals and his medication. The jail is saying that his death is not being treated as suspicious.

No word on if him being held for four months without bail for $5 worth of munchies is being treated as suspicious yet.
