Did PETA commit a felony by stealing and euthanizing a little girl’s dog?

ptamy[1]The radical animal rights organization PETA claims to care about animals, but its outrageous tactics and positions tend to reflect otherwise. Wilbur Cerate told Wavy.com’s 10 On Your Side in Virginia a heartbreaking story of how his security cameras caught a PETA truck pulling up to his house, grabbing their small chihuahua, Maya. Three days later, two women from PETA stopped by their house and told them Maya had been euthanized. There has been no explanation why. [2]

Wilbur’s young daughter is devastated. According to Wavy.com,

“She didn’t want to go to school, she didn’t want to do jobs, she’s crying,” said the girl’s father, Wilbur Cerate. He noticed Maya missing when he got home one Saturday in October. “My chihuahua, when she sees my car, she come to me,” Cerate said. “That Saturday she did not come.”

Wilbur reported the theft to the sheriff’s office, which turned it over to the district attorney’s office as larceny. Bewilderingly, the prosecutor told Accomack County Sheriff Todd Godwin there wasn’t enough evidence to prosecute, and dropped the charges.

How a video clearly showing a seizure of the chihuahua does not provide evidence makes no sense. 10 On Your Side continues to investigate the matter, even though the district attorney won’t. PETA has a reckless history of treating both people and animals, and should not be allowed to get away with what they did to this poor dog and its little girl owner.
