Hillary Clinton is scrambling after the latest poll showing Trump in a favored position above her. They are currently in a tie. This new national tracking poll released by Reuters/Ipsos poll on Friday erased the HUGE deficit between Clinton and Trump. Clinton’s support has been falling steadily since August 25th.

This week’s Reuters poll shows 40% of likely voters for Trump with 39% for Hillary. Trump has been gaining Republican support, but it’s still below the 85% 2012 GOP nominee Romney enjoyed at this time.

The poll showed 40 percent of likely voters supporting Trump and 39 percent backing Clinton for the week of Aug. 26 to Sept. 1. Clinton’s support has dropped steadily in the weekly tracking poll since Aug. 25, eliminating what had been a eight-point lead for her.

Reuters explains that their poll is conducted online in English in all 50 states. The latest poll surveyed 1,804 likely voters over the course of the week; it had a credibility interval, a measure of accuracy, of three percent. People treat Reuters poll as a highly respectable source for polling information. However, other polls have produced very different results.

Despite the difference, polling aggregators who calculate averages of major polls, are showing that Clinton’s lead is definitely shrinking and has been for the past few weeks. Those averages still put her advantage over Trump at between three and six percentage points. These polls are only considering the popular vote which doesn’t make a President.

As of last Friday, the separate Reuters/Ipsos States of the Nation polling project estimated Clinton was on track to win the Electoral College, by about 332 votes to 206. Those numbers were scheduled to be updated later Friday.

The renewed criticism over Clinton’s handling of classified information while serving as U.S. Secretary of State and her family’s charitable foundation has come under fresh scrutiny for the donations it accepted while Clinton served in the Obama administration has damaged her. But the question is really about those electoral votes, does the Trump team even understand how the electoral college works? Is the Trump team doing what it takes to get those electoral votes?
