“We Need A Strategy For Low Carbon” She Says Before Jumping In The Caddy

How’s that saying go, if Democrats didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any standards at all? Or, the other one, do as I say, not as I do

On the Spot (CNSNews.com)[1] – Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) supports government efforts to cap U.S. carbon emissions in the cause of controlling global warming.

“I think it’s part of a larger clean-up,” Stabenow told CNSNews.com. “We need a strategy for low carbon, yes.”

But Stabenow admits she doesn’t take public transportation to work, she drives to Capitol Hill.

“I drive a Cadillac STS, it’s a small car,” she added.

The STS averages 16 miles per gallon in the city, 26 miles per gallon highway, according to General Motors and FuelEfficiency.gov–a joint Web site of the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Billy Mays is on hand. “But wait, there’s more!”

Stabenow, who represents Michigan, the home of the American automobile industry, said she thinks that people who support a limit on carbon emissions should drive American fuel-efficient cars.

“I want people to support American fuel-efficient vehicles,” she told CNSNews.com.

But, like most Climahysterics, she is a complete hypocrite. I wonder what Frank Lautenburg (D-NJ) has to say

But Lautenberg also said he doesn’t believe that most of his Senate colleagues use fuel-efficient means to get to the Capitol.

“I think it is rare among these people. I don’t see people suddenly switching to fuel-efficient cars, if their current car is running well,” he told CNSNews.com.

Hey, look, I am all for increasing fuel milage. I would have thought some progress would have been made in the years between when I bought my last one (a 1997 Honda CRV with 37K I bought in 2001) and now (a 2006 Jeep Liberty with 10K on it, roughly similar milage to Stabenow’s Caddy.) Alas, not really. Unless one wants to drive I micro mobile death trap. But, legislators enacting legislation that will jack up costs on everything when they themselves do not walk the talk is, well, nuts. I’ll listen to environmentalists and AGW believers if they are living the life. The rest? They need to go peddle it elsewhere.

Maybe someone can ask Henry Waxman what’s going on……huh? He doesn’t even know what is in his own bill[2]?
