White House Exempting Itself From FOIA!

White House Exempting Itself From FOIA!

Raise you hands if you’re surprised.  The Obama White House (you know, the most transparent one EVAH) is planning to remove a regulation that makes them subject to the Freedom of Information ACT (FOIA)…

The White House said the FOIA regulations are consistent with court rulings that the office is not subject to the transparency law. The office handles the archiving of e-mails.

The timing of this removal brought some questions to the transparency advocates because it was on National Freedom of Information Day and during the debate over the preservation of Obama administration records. And it’s Sunshine Week, a week where news organization and watchdog groups bring issues of government transparency to the forefront.

Anne Weismann of the liberal Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington said: “The irony of this being Sunshine Week is not lost on me.”

For 30 years the Office of Administration has responded to FOIA from the right and the left to shed light on what goes on in the White House and with the Administration in charge.  The Obama Administration plans to change that…though I’m sure will fight for it to be reinstated under a Rubio/Paul/Walker/Bush/Cruz Administration.
