10 Thoughts About Osama Bin Laden’s Death

* I don’t celebrate the deaths of my political enemies, but you better believe that I’m celebrating the death of Osama Bin Laden.

Bin Laden is an enemy of our country and of humanity, he deserved to die, and I don’t give two hoots in hell about pretending to be sorry for him or pretending that I’m filled with anything other than pure joy about his death. In fact, the only regret I have is that son of a b*tch got to live this long before we got him.

Some people might say that’s not a Christian attitude. I disagree when it comes to a man like Bin Laden.

“When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.” — Proverbs 21:15

* Next, let me give a little credit to a man who played an integral part in getting Bin Laden, but who won’t get all the recognition he deserves for political reasons.

George W. Bush started the hunt for Bin Laden and almost everything Obama has done to get Osama has been a continuation or an enhancement of the programs Bush put in place. That’s not an effort to steal credit from Obama, because he does deserve credit, but it’s just giving Bush some rightful credit for the part he played in helping to kill Bin Laden.

Remember this? The George W. Bush – 9/11 Bullhorn Speech….

Also, you remember the flack Bush caught for saying this[1] about Osama Bin Laden a few days after 9/11?

I want justice. And there’s an old poster out West I recall, that said, ‘Wanted, Dead or Alive.’

Lastly, here’s one of my favorite quotations from George W. Bush that seems particularly appropriate for today.

Whether we bring our enemies to justice, or bring justice to our enemies, justice will be done.

* You’ve seen the reaction in New York and D.C. on TV? Here’s something that will give you an idea of the scale of the online reaction. Word starting breaking online that Osama Bin Laden was dead at around 10:30. Five hours later, the Osama Bin Laden is DEAD[2] Facebook page had 265,375 likes. Pretty impressive.

* At this early point, we don’t know how long Osama was living in his swanky pad in Abbottabad, Pakistan. But, we do know it was an expensive, heavily fortified building within Abbottabad’s military cantonment[3] – it is likely the area would have had a constant and significant military presence and checkpoints.” That leads to an obvious question: were there people in Pakistan’s military/intelligence network who knew Osama Bin Laden was there? Yes, definitely. Does that mean that Pakistan’s government knew at the highest levels? No, were there some people with juice who knew he was there and protected him? Again, definitely. That’s something we’re going to have to deal with.

* For a guy who’s supposed to be a great communicator, Obama’s speech announcing Bin Laden’s death was absolutely awful — which is pretty amazing if you think about it. Here’s a man with the most electric piece of news that most Americans have heard in the last 5 years and he actually made it kind of dull. His delivery was stilted, stumbling and passionless, he gave this weird and unnecessary recap of everything that happened since 9/11, and despite the fact he gave the speech an hour late, there were no memorable lines.

* You knew SOMEONE had to accidentally do this.

* Will this help Obama politically? It certainly should. It’s pretty much the only thing he’s done right since he got into the White House. He’s systematically destroying the country domestically and his foreign policy has rightfully been called an “amateur hour,” but this does give him at least one significant, universally popular accomplishment that he can trumpet.

* One thing you’re going to hear from some quarters on the Left is that now that we’ve got Bin Laden, the war’s over. Not only is that not true, it doesn’t even make any sense. If, God forbid, Al-Qaeda assassinated Barack Obama, could they declare the war over? Of course, not. To the contrary, it would cause both Republicans and Democrats to come together to demand that we redouble our efforts to kill as many members of Al-Qaeda as possible. In our case, we can expect Al-Qaeda to try harder to hit us now and no one seems to think the entire organization is going to fall apart because Bin Laden’s dead. If that happens, great, but at the moment, Al-Qaeda still exists and they’re still at war with us. The only thing that will happen if we stop killing them is they will use the opportunity to try to kill us.

* There are people saying Osama should have had a trial. Setting aside the fact that our troops apparently gave him a chance to surrender before they shot him in the forehead, what difference does a trial make? Bin Laden’s not an American; so he had no Constitutional rights. Had we captured him, we would have either had to risk letting him walk by putting him into a civilian court system that’s ill equipped to handle terrorists or we would have had to give him a military trial that leftists and terrorist sympathizers would still call unfair. Even if he went to prison, there would undoubtedly be kidnappings of Americans whom terrorists would try to use as bargaining chips to get Bin Laden. It happens to Israel all the time. This is quicker, easier, and justice has been done.

* Lastly, let me leave you with a bit of funny – hat tip to
Ace of Spades HQ[5]. Osama Bin Laden’s compound now shows up on Google Maps[6] and people have started rating it like a hotel. Here are a few of the comments.

Free HBO, but “death to America! ” chants were getting old. Better options nearby.

Heard this used to be an amusement park, now it’s a historical site? Aside from the complimentary dialysis machine use, easy underground access to Pakistan’s beautiful vast cave system, and free toaster waffles, it’s a pretty big dump. The food wasn’t organic, the wifi was spotty at best, absolutely no cell coverage, (yelp reviews were so wrong on that one) and no one spoke English. To make it worse, the country’s best basketball player, some 6’7″ dude with a turban, gets shot our first night there. And the coffee was cold. We’re so not coming back.

Located in cozy, quiet neighborhood. Interrupted only occasionally by machine gun fire. Lacking in ameneties, but an up and coming area. Handyman special. One satellite phone available with smoking bullet hole for comms back home. CIA helicoptors offering complimentary air lift service for corpses. Great property to get away from it all. Must See!
