A Short, Tardy Review Of The 2nd “Half Hour Comedy Hour” Show

When the first “Half Hour Comedy Hour” came out, I roughed the show up with my review. How badly did I thrash them? Well, I was quoted on Wikipedia as saying that the “Half Hour Comedy Hour” “may be the least edgy show made since Leave it to Beaver.”

Because I disliked the first show so much, I wasn’t too keen on seeing it again. But last night, I was running low on things to watch on TiVo and what do you know, there it was.

Last time around, I opined that, “If the show doesn’t get a LOT FUNNIER than this, it’s doomed…” Well, guess what? For whatever reason, it got a LOT FUNNIER in episode 2.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the show wasn’t a masterpiece of comedy, but I did at least laugh out loud a couple of times. For example, I found this to be hilarious…

During a recent C-Span interview, Jimmy Carter said he has already begun planning his funeral and wants to be buried in Plains, Georgia. Also actively planning Jimmy Carter’s burial, Israel!

Additionally, both of the skits that they did in this episode, on pre-school sex offenders and banning playground games, were pretty good as well.

That is why I hope Jossip is right and the show is about to get the go ahead for 13 new episodes. Again it’s not the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, but it wasn’t bad either and…psstt…can I tell you a secret? I don’t think Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert are particularly entertaining or funny, so if that’s the bar the show had to jump over, it made it on the 2nd try.
