At the risk of starting the Next Big Controversy regarding Barack Obama’s upbringing…

…I feel compelled to notice this story:

In the spring of 1961, President Obama’s father revealed a plan for his unborn son that might have changed the course of American political history.

The elder Barack H. Obama… declared that they intended to put their child up for adoption.

Questions:

  • So?
  • Why’s this story coming up now?

And:

  • Oh, my God, how adorable is Barack Obama in this picture?

Don’t you just wanna pinch those cheeks?

But, look, not to get all consipracy-theorist on this, but: the caption says:

President Obama as a young boy, with his father, who left when his son was 2.

I am the father of four children, and as such am eminently qualified to opine: that kid looks a lot older than 2.

So what the hell? Did Barack Sr. come back from time to time?

UPDATE — well, it’s Wikipedia, so, y’know, grain of salt, but:

In December 1971, Obama, Sr., who was recuperating after an almost year-long hospitalization following an automobile accident,[50] made a month-long trip to Hawaii, during which he visited with his ex-wife, Ann Dunham, and their son, Barack Obama II. The visit was the last time 10-year-old Obama II would see his father.

Yeah, I can see that kid being ten.

UPDATE II — Ann Althouse has more, including:

Why – let’s ask the question again – did Barack Obama, Jr. write a book called “Dreams From My Father”? Why did this man, rather than his mother, deserve to be the centerpiece of his autobiography?

Shades of Bill Cosby.*

* That a vague enough reference for you?
