Baghdad Jim Floats A Conspiracy Theory About Saddam’s Capture
Do you ever wonder why there are so many crazy conspiracy theories and wacky ideas floating around on the left? Well, maybe it’s because prominent left-wingers like Michael Moore, Ted Rall, Jim Moran, Cynthia McKinney, Howard Dean, and now Jim McDermott, D-Wash keep putting them out there. Here’s what Baghdad Jim had to say about the capture of Saddam Hussein,
“In an interview Monday with a Seattle radio station, McDermott said the U.S. military could have found the former Iraqi dictator “a long time ago if they wanted.”
Asked if he thought the weekend capture was timed to help Bush, McDermott chuckled and said, “Yeah. Oh, yeah.”
McDermott went on to say, “There’s too much by happenstance for it to be just a coincidental thing.”
When interviewer Dave Ross asked again if he meant to imply the Bush administration timed the capture for political reasons, McDermott said: “I don’t know that it was definitely planned on this weekend, but I know they’ve been in contact with people all along who knew basically where he was. It was just a matter of time till they’d find him.
“It’s funny,” McDermott added, “when they’re having all this trouble, suddenly they have to roll out something.”
How bad is it when you can’t tell the difference between a Democratic congressman and the kooks posting in the tinfoil hat threads at the DU?
Either McDermott took his prozac after the interview or his campaign adviser convinced him that he sounded like a lunatic, because later he denied to the AP that he was saying Saddam’s capture was “intentionally delayed”. Of course, that was EXACTLY what he was saying,
On the upside, these sort of incidents help convince independents & yellow dog democrats that they’re in the wrong party, but they also encourage the sort of insane rhetoric that has become all too prevalent on the left. If the Democrats had any common decency, they’d take McDermott out to the woodshed publicly just to send a message that this sort of conspiratorial poppycock wasn’t going to be tolerated, but as we all know, that’s just not the way they do things. Too bad…
