Cinton Version 2.0: The same

Cinton Version 2.0: The same administration that scoffed at the worthless Kyoto treaty has now sent in a report to the United Nations[1]….

“In the report, the administration for the first time mostly blames human actions for recent global warming. It says the main culprit is the burning of fossil fuels that send heat-trapping greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.”

Now why has GWB flip-flopped on this? For the same reason he flip-flopped on free trade, drilling in Florida, campaign finance reform, his own “Bush doctrine” and many, many, other things. He wants the Republican Party to take back the Senate in 2002 and he wants to be reelected in 2004. By changing his stance on global warming he thinks he’ll undercut the Democrats on the environment and that will help get more Republicans elected. But if Bush ceaselessly panders to the Democrats on almost every issue I’m not sure that it really makes much of a difference. We’re either going to have Democrats pushing the Democratic agenda because they believe in it or Republicans pushing the Democratic agenda to try to steal Democratic votes in order to get elected.

There was a time when I actually thought Bush would only give in on certain things while he would stick to his guns on issues that really mattered to him. I now believe that Bush doesn’t have any principles that he won’t abandon to get elected.

We got sold a bill of goods folks. We thought we were getting Ronald Reagan lite but what we actually got was Bill Clinton version 2.0. This one is a slight improvement over the last version because it has slightly right of center views, doesn’t lie every five minutes, and can actually keep it’s pants on. But otherwise we still have a poll driven, political animal and who’d toss his own wife in a shark tank if that’s what it took to get elected again. Let’s hope that it stays in Bush’s best political interests to continue to aggressively pursue the “War on Terrorism” or Bush’s 2000 election may turn into a Pyrrhic victory for the Republican Party and the country.
