Colorado Atty. General to Investigate Planned Parenthood Videos Coaching Young Girls in BDSM

Imagine what would happen if a softball coach or: youth group leader was caught on tape giving graphic sex tips to a young teen. No matter the context, they’d be fired–possibly arrested. So why are Planned Parenthood “professionals” supposed to be different? The Attorney General of Colorado says he wants to investigate Planned Parenthood for doing just that in a Live Action sting, which showed employees coaching a supposedly 15-year-old girl on BDSM techniques, such as “whipping,” “tying up,” and “asphyxiation.”

Unfortunately, the AG lacks the jurisdiction to do much about it.

The second installment of pro-life organization Live Action’s series titled “SexEd: Planned Parenthood’s Dangerous Sex Advice for Kids,” features Denver Planned Parenthood counselors suggesting to the undercover investigator a spectrum of sadistic sexual behaviors…As observed by Wayne Laugesen at the National Catholic Register, despite Colorado Attorney General John Suthers’ intentions to have the recent Live Action video reviewed, he lacks jurisdiction to do much if criminal activity on the part of Planned Parenthood is suspected. Instead, Arapahoe County District Attorney George Brauchler has jurisdiction in the matter, and local authorities would need to pursue any charges.

The video was released on July 15, just several weeks after a lawsuit was filed charging Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains with failing to report sexual abuse in the case of a 13-year old girl by her stepfather, Timothy David Smith, who brought her to the Denver Planned Parenthood facility and paid for her abortion on May 3, 2012.

Planned Parenthood has its usual defenders in this case, saying PP just wants teens to be “safe,” and only horribly uptight, fundamentalist Christo-fascists could possibly oppose instructing a 15-year-old on “safe” asphyxiation. Which sounds like a fantastic idea, by the way. I can’t think of a better activity for inexperienced, impressionable teenagers to experiment with than erotic strangulation. What could go wrong? Maybe PP can create a helpful pamphlet offering legal advice for teens who accidentally kill or injure their “partners.” Is there a single reputable nurse or pediatrician outside of PP who would engage in this conversation with a minor, let alone encourage these activities?

Obviously, some people can’t see the:  difference between teaching kids about sexual health versus instructing them on how to perform and enjoy various sex acts. Defenders should ask themselves why behavior that would never be acceptable for a teacher, coach, or clergy member is okay for a sexual health “professional” at a Planned Parenthood clinic.
