Although I am not a fan of peanut butter and I do not smoke, I understand that a government ban of either “sinful” pleasure will eventually invade my own liberty. For example, I am a huge fan of fast food, and I have little doubt that the government will soon find a new way to limit my caloric intake for the good of society. In fact, fast food bans have already started throughout the Country.

Well, to add to the mountain of nonsense that the government will ban, now people in Madison, Wisconsin cannot feed the squirrels. The concern is that they might inadvertently harm a child with a peanut allergy. Yep.

Now, I know this is not as absurd as a $3.5 trillion budget in one year, but it is a representative sample of the public’s acceptance of absurd controls. First of all, peanut allergies can be mitigated with mild exposure to peanuts over time. That is why nobody heard of peanut allergies as a serious problem twenty years ago. But now, everyone has to be controlled because of the rare case that some person may be allergic.

Are we really to believe that handing a squirrel a peanut is then going to result in that squirrel taking that peanut and bringing it into proximity of someone who is going to become deathly ill from it? No, of course not. But, people still accept the control because we have become conditioned to this type of abject absurdity.
