Guantanamo Prison Will Stay Open

Coming as no surprise to conservatives, it doesn’t look likely that Pres. Obama will close Gitmo:

WASHINGTON — Stymied by political opposition and focused on competing priorities, the Obama administration has sidelined efforts to close the Guantánamo prison, making it unlikely that President Obama will fulfill his promise to close it before his term ends in 2013.

As Marc Theissen points out, this news item naturally came out on Saturday in the NYT on page A13:

If you want to see what news the Obama administration is hoping you will miss, just pick up the Saturday paper. The White House has perfected the art of making sure the most embarrassing items for the president appear when Americans are headed to the beach or the pool with family, and least likely to see them.

This was the case last month, when the administration chose the Friday before Memorial Day weekend to leak an official report which confirmed that 95 percent of the detainees held at Guantanamo Bay are terrorist leaders, operatives, or fighters.

Which may be why Gitmo will not close.

I don’t this time the Saturday/weekend news leak that the White House has perfected is going to work. I think Americans will notice that Gitmo was never closed as promised.
